Law & Order's Mariska Hargitay dotes over her polka-dot princess Amaya on family day out

She is well known for her devotion to being the perfect mother.

And Mariska Hargitay proved she really is doting parent when she fed her daughter corn on the cob for a snack on the streets of New York.

The Law and Order star even managed to juggle sending a text message with giving her daughter the tasty treat as they enjoyed the atmosphere of a local street fair.

The practical mother-of-three looked fantastic in a utilitarian outfit of pullover, jeans and boots as she padded around the streets of Manhattan.

Ambrosial 18-month-old Amaya, who she adopted as a baby, meanwhile wore a cute red and purple dress, leggings and silver shoes.

Her six-year-old son August went for a trendier look of blue hoodie, green casual trousers and a Rolling Stones T-shirt.

Mariska, 48, and her husband Peter Hermann adopted both daughter Amaya Josephine and one-year-old son Andrew Nicolas in the span of six months last year.

And she said their biological son August feels 'pretty good and pretty powerful' about his younger siblings.

She added: 'He thinks this was all his idea. He said, "I want a baby sister," and Amaya came.

'Then he said, "I want a baby brother," and Andrew came.'

But while she now has her dream cosmopolitan family, she emphasised the fact it was not an easy process.

She said: 'I’m not gonna lie, there were wrenching moments. I say to everybody, "Adoption is not for the faint of heart."'

What a pretty family. I love the pic of her little son chilling out in the stroller. But, with her parental genes, well, hard not to be outstanding looking. Nice pics of both kids. Looks like a very happy family.
