Mirror, mirror on the wall... Vanessa Hudgens checks herself out in shop window as she strolls with beau Austin Butler

It's the oldest vanity trick in the book, and most of us have done it more than once.

Vanessa Hudgens was spotted using the glass in a shop window in Beverly Hills to make sure she was looking her best as she stepped out with her boyfriend on Monday.

But the 23-year-old High School Musical star had nothing to worry about, looking great in a floaty summer dress, her dark curls tousled around her pretty face.

Hudgens paired her baby-doll dress with a pair of mushroom-coloured heeled clogs, and slung a bohemian grey crochet purse over her shoulder which had long tassels.

The actress wore a large turquoise ring on her right hand, and a simple gold bracelet on the opposite wrist.

Vanessa's boyfriend, Austin Butler, dressed down in blue jeans, a grey long-sleeved top and a baseball cap.

Since performing her breakout role of Gabriella Montez in High School Musical, Vanessa has been spreading her wings in both the fashion department, and in the kind of roles she has been taking on, in an attempt to cast off her Disney image.

In a recent fashion spread for The Untitled Magazine, the actress makes a glamorous appearance in sophisticated designer clothes, and talks about her transformation.

'High School Musical was incredible and it was so fun and it gave me so many fans which I’m very, very thankful for, but it also closed people’s minds up as to which characters I could portray.'

On more recent film projects such as Spring Breakers with James Franco and Gimme Shelter with Brendan Fraser and Rosario Dawson, she said: 'Definitely crossing over and being able to tackle these grittier parts was a challenge but I feel like I’ve done it! It’s a whole new chapter!'

Hudgens and Butler - also an actor and musician - have been dating since September last year.

oh my god.. most people do that! & she was probably making sure she didn't look horrific in case you reported that she looked bad on a 'day off' how is this a story worth putting up?
