These boots were made for mornings: Alicia Keys brightens up an early radio show appearance with her gold boots

With a toddler son to care for and her busy music career, Alicia Keys probably doesn't get much sleep.

So when she was up early to appear on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show, she decided to brighten things up with a pair of gold boots.

The New Yorker, 31, was a guest on new breakfast host Nick Grimshaw's show, where she was promoting her new album Girl On Fire.

She ended up arriving 15 minutes later than planned, and also had some dark stains on her jeans, which were likely caused by her 23-month-old son Egypt.

But once in the studio, it looked like the singer was having plenty of fun with Nick.

They both tweeted photos of themselves having fun in a photobooth, with Nick winning over Alicia with his Barack Obama T-shirt.

Alicia tweeted: 'Early morning radio in London rockin out w @grimmers!!! Tired but laughin!'

Alicia has been in the UK all week and performed a free gig in Manchester's Cathedral.

However, Manchester City Council have been attacked by critics for spending £425,000 of public money on funding the concert.

Sara Tomkins, assistant chief executive (communications, customer and IT) at Manchester City Council, said: 'This event will showcase Manchester around the world. As well as showing the concert itself, MTV are also broadcasting a programme about Manchester's musical heritage and vibrant music scene.

'Taking part in such world-class events strengthens Manchester's position on the world stage as a premier destination for music, entertainment and culture, boosts the local economy, and increases the global profile of Manchester as an exciting destination for young adults to visit, work, study and live.'

Tonight, Alicia is due to perform at London's Roundhouse for the iTunes Festival.

A one-hour special on Alicia's concert will be broadcast live on 4Music (10pm on Freeview 18, Sky 360 and Virgin 330).

why is everyone bothered about if she goes to sleep??? at least she works with her son- alot of our british mothers give up work and spend next 20 years on benefits until being forced to go back to work as either a carer or in a supermarket. Take your green eyes out and give the girl a break. I know if I had the money she had, i would be lazy and never work again!

suziej1981, What is your problem? Get up on the wrong side of the bed? I doubt you know anything about what Alicia's life is like or the demands she has to meet, so stop being so judgemental. If she's tired and needs rest then hopefully she'll be able to do that. Unfortunately it doesn't always work out the way we plan. Oh and yes, "normal" mom's also need rest and also may have someone watch their little one for a while if necessary, sorry if that never happened for you, but don't be jealous if some can and do take advantage of that help once in awhile. As for the glasses, if I were extremely tired and maybe had a long night, I'd probably wear glasses also. Anyway, if she hadn't, that would just give people something else to criticize her for. Maybe red or swollen eyes? Get a grip and get over it. Alicia is a real trooper and a great mother.

Your comments: She said after the interview she was going to sleep all day after it. That annoyed me coz she has a son same age as mine and I can't sleep in the day! Get real! Also, take the sunglasses off inside please you look a tool
