Founded in 1884, Santa Monica High School—more familiarly known as Samohi—is one of the oldest high schools in California. With a diverse student body (roughly 30 percent Latino, 9 percent black, 8 percent Asian and .2 percent American Indian), the school features an exceptionally broad range of academic, athletic and extracurricular opportunities. Samohi is part of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. Celebrity alumni include Sean Penn, Robert Downey Jr., Rob Lowe, Maya Rudolph and Charlie Sheen.
