It's a secret to everyone.

There’s a Collector’s Edition of Journey coming.

The sighting (over at PSNStores) was discovered as part of Sony’s E3 Sizzle trailer (above) – appearing for just a second.

There’s no details on what this special edition could be but we assume it’s just the game along with the soundtrack.

We asked SCEE what the details were but they weren’t willing to divulge anything.

Well, it would be nice if people who bought this at release could pay the “uplift” and get this. Sick of buying things straight away then a better/cheaper/more-complete version is released.

I agree. Pros and cons to buying early or late though.
I’ve still not got journey so this may be for me.

Honestly though, with a so-called indie developer – I won’t buy their next game at release as these things have a habit of repeating, then they will moan that they can’t afford to produce a new game, and that the market is saturated with sequels, as initial sales of their latest game didn’t sell as well as they’d hoped.
This is not exclusive to thatgamecompany, but I’m still not happy about it. Perhaps the gaming market is suffering as people have been quicker than me to release this senario and all their games are the GOTY/Complete/all-singing-all-fucking-dacing-dlc edition.
Yup, I think that was the end of my rant.

I’m one of those that doesn’t buy most games until the ‘complete’ game is all on one disc. It means missing out on the game for a year or so but I’d rather wait and pay £20 compared to £40 at launch and god knows how much more for any DLC packs.

I think I’m going to adopt this approach. I recently picked up DiRT 3 Complete Edition for £13.95, albeit with a 10% discount, just for the £20+ DLC. I paid £40 at launch for the original game. Had I bought all the DLC you’d be looking at over £60, and I just got everything for £13.95, and saved HDD space!!! It’s crazy! With more companies bringing out loads of DLC, this is what I’ll do in future as they will no doubt bring out further editions of the game including it all.

Trouble is that some companies have effectively dug their own graves now, as no-one will be buying at launch anymore & will be waiting for the GotY edition instead (whether it won awards or not!).

Indeed Forrest, that’s exactly my point. Rather than have a game, and some DLC, companies now seem to have the initial release, a shit-load of DLC, then a packaged re-release. I like to get the most out of my games, and am partial to a trophy, so I like to buy a lot of DLC, therefore (for me) I’m better off waiting for these later versions with DLC included. With so much DLC these days, it’s having a negative effect on me buying other new games. If I buy a game at it’s first release and then buy the subsequent DLC, when I could have later purchase the GOTY edition, the extra expenditure is money I could have used to buy a new game and supported another developer. Afterall I’m not minted. Perhaps this is the ploy so I use that extra cash on the same developer’s product, but perhaps I might have bought another one of their games anyway.

I think if you buy games around six months after their release date you’ll get a far better deal – cheaper DLC etc. Obviously, if you’re patient you can just wait for a year for the the inevitable all-singing, all-dancing kick-ass edition. That’s what I’ve been doing (Journey was the exception), and I’ve been getting some great bargains.
I don’t think it’s actually much of a problem for gamers nowadays to wait because it seems that everyone’s trying to get through a backlog of games.

I think the three thatgamecompany games will be bundled in one “collection”, hence the collector’s edition.

Check the gametrailers on gametrailers.com; it features those three games…

The logic of releasing a collectors edition after the original event is somewhat confusing. Of course they will make some extra sales on it (and we cant begrudge them that at all) but surely the market for people who would have bought the collectors edition originally has been eradicated because anyone who would have bought it already bought the game not in a collection.

But Journey is a digtal only game so there is no point to having a collector’s edition unless it is actually a collection of all three games by That Game Studio in which case, wouldn’t it be called That Game collection?

Well I haven’t bought this yet so I’ll wait for the collectors edition and hopefully get some nice extras. :)
