Zach Braff to Star Off Broadway in ‘Trust’

After eight seasons starring on the comedy “Scrubs,” Zach Braff will return to a New York stage this summer in the Off Broadway production of the dark comedy “Trust,” a new play by Paul Weitz, the co-director of the films “About a Boy” and “American Pie.” Joining Mr. Braff in the ensemble cast at Second Stage Theater will be the Tony Award-winning actress Sutton Foster (“Thoroughly Modern Millie”), Bobby Cannavale (a Tony nominee for “Mauritius”), and Ari Graynor (“The Little Dog Laughed”).

Mr. Braff’s last major theater role in New York was as Sebastian in the Shakespeare in the Park production of “Twelfth Night,” in 2002. In “Trust,” Mr. Braff will play a wealthy married man who “looks to find something real in the most unlikely of places,” according to a statement from Second Stage.

Directed by Peter DuBois (“Becky Shaw”), the production is scheduled to begin preview performances on July 23, open on Aug. 12, and run through Sept. 5. Two of Mr. Weitz’s earlier plays, “Privilege” and “Show People,” also had productions at Second Stage.
