Advanced computer networks and communication (graduate level) – Advanced topics in emerging computer networking technologies, including high-speed wide area networks and local area networks, wireless and mobile computing networks, optical networks, and multimedia networking.
Numerical Methods for Ordinary Differential Equations (graduate level) – Linear multi-step methods and single step nonlinear methods for initial value problems. Consistency, stability and convergence. Finite difference, finite element, shooting methods for boundary value problems.
Selected Topics in Database Systems/Data Mining (graduate level) – The key objectives of this course are two-fold: 1) to teach the fundamental concepts of data mining and 2) to provide extensive hands-on experience in applying the concepts to real-world applications. The core topics to be covered in this course include classification, clustering, association analysis, and anomaly/novelty detection.
Mathematical Biology (graduate level, two semesters) – Application of the mathematical methods to the various Biological problems, such as population modeling, genetics. The course is the good introduction to the molecular biology science for the students with technical background.
Statistics for Quality and Productivity (undergraduate level) – Scientific context of quality: Box, Deming, Taguchi. Graphical techniques, control charts. Design of experiments: factorials and fractional factorials, confounding and aliasing. Engineering parameter design through experimentation.
Design and Theory of Algorithms (graduate level) – Analysis of algorithms. Algorithm design techniques. Efficient algorithms for classical problems. Intractable problems and techniques to handle them.

PROJECTS

Analysis and Simulation of Traffic Flow — In this project we considered the heterogeneities (namely the abrupt changes in speed) occurring in traffic flow and their consequences. As the simulation base we introduced follow-the-leader model. The obtained results were compared to the theoretical ones based on the nonlinear wave equations which were used to describe traffic jams. The simulation was performed on Simulink simulation engine.
Reconstruction of Data Distribution from Perturbed Dataset — In this project, we are considering the information privacy. We touch upon several techniques of masking the data, namely random distortion, including the uniform and Gaussian noise, applied to the data in order to protect it. Then, after using a certain data recovering techniques we look for the distribution of data obtained. Our task is to determine whether the distributions of the original and recovered data are close enough to each other despite the nature of the noise applied. We are considering an ensemble clustering method to reconstruct the initial data distribution. As the tool for the algorithm implementations we chose the “language of choice in industrial world” – MATLAB.
Distortion inside a Piston Bore — this project is proposed by DaimlerChrysler. The project involves analysis of the cylinder distortions that occur inside car engine and study of the piston ring/cylinder bore conformability issues. Existing approaches to calculation of distortion bounds are being examined and compared. The project involves Fourier analysis, elements of mechanical engineering and computer simulations.
