Dysis is a voxel-based RTS with robots, modding support

dysis

It’s the fate of every game with voxels and terrain deformation to be immediately compared to Minecraft, but Dysis is one of the few to take an entirely different tack, combining real-time strategy with first-person shooting, base building with a splash of tower defence, and robots with… other types of robots. Sole Developer Chris Farrell makes real robots for a living, so expect this element to be fairly well researched.

bf3 egg

A server update for Battlefield 3′s Armored Kill rolls out today, although it appears to leave the expansion’s literal easter egg well enough alone, probably out of fear over what might hatch. What it will do is tweak the respawn times of the gunship, fix knife takedowns, and make it so that “players can no longer enter vehicles while climbing a ladder.” DICE have also added the option to remove the minimap in Hardcore mode, for increased realism and odds of getting lost. You can see the full list of fixes here.

Windows 8 won’t allow adult games on its storefront

Windows 8 storefront

An analysis of the Windows 8 app certification requirements by programmer and tech blogger Casey Muratori suggests that games with a rating over PEGI 16 or ESRB Mature will not be allowed on the Windows 8 storefront.

This means we won’t be seeing many of the current crop of games on the store, or, given the proliferation of rating-baiting neck-stabbing seen at E3, many of next year’s either – not unless publisher’s are willing to heavily sanitise their content.

wot breach

If you play Wargaming.net’s World of Tanks, you’re going to want to change your password now. PlaySpan, the system used to conduct real money transactions in the MMO, has been hacked, with over two million account details being leaked online, including email addresses, user IDs, and encrypted passwords. Credit card information doesn’t appear to have been at risk, but if you use the same password for other games or sites, we’d recommend changing it to something else. And no, not ‘Password1′.

lol cheating

Yesterday, we reported on a scandal at the League of Legends World Championship playoffs involving members of team Azubu Frost allegedly using the tournament displays (with both team’s vision revealed for the benefit of the spectators) to gain information about the other team. The professional esports equivalent of the classic “screen hack” you used to get accused of in Goldeneye, basically. Riot has ruled that the outcome of the match will stand, but that Azubu Frost will be fined $30,000, which accounts for 20 percent of their winnings.

Dead Space 3 screenshots show serene space drifting, demoralizing graffiti

Dead Space 3

Dead Space 3′s Isaac Clarke isn’t averse to staying in shape while combating the nightmarish forces of OH GOD WHY. All it takes is a suitable trigger for cranking up the cardio — in this case, a friendly message of discouragement adorned upon a wall in “revulsion red” color. Off Isaac goes, soaking in a spiritually cleansing (and oxygen-depriving) spacewalk after hurling himself out the nearest airlock. A short followup jog through a hallway seemingly ripped directly from a Q-Zar arena keeps that pulse pumping. Check out shots from Isaac’s refreshing regimen inside.

Using certain soldier names in XCOM: Enemy Unknown will activate XCOM Heroes – pre-designed super soldiers such as Sid Meier and Ken Levine. Before activating a Hero, a pop-up will warn you that they’re too damn amazing to allow you to continue the game with achievements turned on, and you cannot modify a Hero character after summoning it. If you decide to use one, do avoid killing him with some bull-headed tactical screw-up — we’d kind of like BioShock Infinite to be finished.

Mass Effect 3 Retaliation Volus

Pandas aren’t the only rotund energy-slingers buffing the bad-ass scales off the charts. The Retaliation update for Mass Effect 3′s multiplayer added the trade-savvy Volus as a playable race, and the results sway between absolute adorableness and side-splitting hilarity.

GOG.com is running a “Pay what you want” deal on the Divinity series from Larian Studios. You can get the original 2002 RPG for any price you name. Beat the average (about $8 as of the writing of this article), and they’ll also throw in Beyond Divinity. Double the average, and you’ll get early access to the Divinity II Developer’s Cut when it releases later this month.

We wrote Monday that the beta for humans-vs.-dinosaurs deathmatch Primal Carnage is now open to anyone who pre-orders the game. As an avid fan of raptors (which rank slightly lower than werewolves on the “Awesome Things That Rip Your Organs Out” scale) and also shooting things, I was anxious to get in and sink my teeth into some prehistoric mayhem.
