Chaplaincy and Chapel Schedule
Holy Cross Chapel sits atop the highest point of the Hellenic College Holy Cross campus. It is built in the Byzantine style typical of the 11th and 12th centuries and modeled after the Church of the Holy Apostles in Athens, Greece. Charged by Archbishop Michael of blessed memory, the Greek Orthodox Youth of America (GOYA) successfully funded the construction of the Chapel which is dedicated to the memory of the Archbishop and all those who came to this country in earlier years and planted the faith here. The Chapel was first used for services at graduation in 1963. Beautiful mosaics of the Pantocrator and the Platytera by Demetrios Dukas grace the interior. Extensive renovations have been done in recent years to the interior and exterior of the Chapel Many relics are in the Chapel available for veneration by the faithful. Also, a large blessing cross with a piece of the True Cross is kept in the sanctuary and can be brought out for veneration by a priest. Three hierarchs are buried outside behind the apse on the east side of the Chapel: Archbishop Iakovos of North and South America; Metropolitan Silas of New Jersey; and Bishop Gerasimos of Abydos.
The office of the chaplain is responsible for the administration of the Chapel. During the school year Matins and Vespers are held daily , the Small Supplicatory Canon to the Mother of God is held on Friday evening and the Divine Litrugy is celebrated on Sunday morning and for major feast and saints days. These services are the center of spiritual life on campus and facilitate the liturgical training of seminarians. All services are open to the public .
