NEW ALICE IN CHAINS ALBUM WILL COME OUT IN LATE 2012 OR EARLY 2013

From Grammy.com‘s new interview with Alice In Chains frontman Jerry Cantrell.

Your last album, Black Gives Way To Blue, spawned two GRAMMY nominations. What did that mean to you?
Well, we were very happy to be nominated and lose two GRAMMYs again. I think that put us at zero and eight. Hey, look, dude, it’s the old cliché, but it’s totally true, it’s an honor to be thought of. To be considered one of the [best hard rock performances] of the year, we achieved something. But we were very happy with that, we were very happy with the success that we had. It just felt good, it was hard work and it was worth every bit of it. And we’re looking forward to doing it again.

Do you think the new Alice In Chains album will be out this year?
It’ll depend on when it’s done. We started writing stuff last year. I think we’re all good with that now, so now it’s time to cut it. So we’re gonna try to, but if not it’ll probably be out early next year. It’ll be out about three or four minutes after we’re finished [laughs]. Give the record company time to set it up and plan the attack and tour for hopefully a year, year and a half.

So the writing is pretty much done though?
The thing that set me back is I had some bone spurs [and] cartilage issues in my shoulders. I had the same issue in the other shoulder about six years ago so I’ve had them both done now. It’s a repetitive motion injury from playing. But the repair takes a year [laughs]. So that kind of set us back a little bit, but it takes time anyway — my body started a vacation.

I doubt the album will be out this year. I have a feeling it will be more like middle of next year… but who knows.

Always add 3-5 months to the latest date they tell you.

Unless they lose someone close to them or someone has a kid. Then expect it to be even later as they scrap all the old material and write about the new event in their lives.

It’s total bullshit that they have never won a Grammy. They certainly deserve it.

Yeah, I look for this album to be out next year as opposed to this year.

I’m good with early 2013. The new Soundgarden and potentially a double Stone Sour release will get me through the winter.

That’s right Corey Taylor haters,..I said STONE SOUR!

    @double Stone Sour release@

wow, that would be awesome… but i though Corey’s gonna do a solo album first :D BtW i was introduced to aic and other stuff like pj, stp, cuz Taylor was always talking about them in his interviews, and covering them all the time :)

Soundgarden album anytime in 2012, and Alice in Chains anytime in 2013 sounds good to me.

Gonna tour for a year or year and a half–
Jerry loves that, Layne would’ve hated it
    damn I miss Layne

they did not tour as much in the 90s because bands got almost all the money from record sells, nowadays they release records and then tour for a longer period so they can get some money. the music business changed years ago…

It will be interesting to see what sorts of issues are explored lyrically on this album.

If they never got a Grammy as Alice In Chains v1.0 (c Staley), why would anyone think they would get one now? They are rightfully excited to be nominated. Don’t “Got Me Wrong,” Alice In Chains are one of the best rock bands of my generation, but nothing or no one could ever fill the void that once made them an above average band (yes its a huge understatement, I know). I am glad, however, that they didn’t just go with a Layne sound-a-like (as if there could be one).
“I Can’t Remember” where I was going with this. Alice In Chains is a touchy subject for me. Layne or no Layne, I am glad they decided to reemerge and keep the genre in check.

agree with freewheelin’ up there ^^
and Layne didn’t just leave a void in AiC, he left one in the entire music world
