Battlefield 3: Aftermath DLC out Nov. 27

Fourth expansion for 2011 shooter arrives first for PS3 Battlefield Premium users; available for PC, Xbox 360 Premium December 4, adds four new maps, Scavenger mode, crossbow weapon.

Battlefield 3: Aftermath will launch on November 27 for PlayStation 3 Battlefield Premium users, developer DICE announced today. The content releases a week later on December 4 for Xbox 360 and PC Premium users, and launches for all PS3 players December 11. Xbox 360 and PC gamers without a Premium subscription can get in on the action December 18.

The content is free with a $50 Battlefield Premium subscription, and will also be available as a $15 standalone download.

Aftermath adds four new multiplayer maps set in the streets and cities of a post-earthquake Iran. Additionally, the content brings a new game mode called Scavenger. Gamers who play this mode begin a round with only a knife, one grenade, and a sidearm, and must scour the terrain for more powerful weapons to get the upper hand on their enemies.

The Aftermath content also brings a new weapon, the crossbow, to players' arsenals. Additional achievements, assignments, and vehicles are also up for grabs in the new add-on.

Battlefield 3: Aftermath is the game's fourth of five planned expansions. It follows Back to Karkand, Close Quarters, and Armored Kill, and precedes the final expansion, the suitably named End Game.

Looks good to me. Its already in the bag thanks to premium. Weapons wise, cross bows are ok... I really want a full size TAR 21 in BF3.

Venatorcruiser 89 pts

i hope the new vehicles added will be Mi24 hind, sea knight or chinook, Mi8, M2 bradley, BMP3 and technicals but if they do add technicals it would be good to have two versions one with an KORD or DsHKM and one with an SPG9 to be able to take out armored vehicles

Did anyone else notice the ground shaking towards the end? Even maybe while the crossbow was being aimed (although could have been unsteady hands).Earthquake mid-rounds? Sounds f*king cool!

IM RELOADING!*Earthquake happens* NOOO!!!

egger7577 144 pts

kelso27 At the end if you notice real quickly it says earthquake environments. Sounds interesting.

Who needs a sniper rifle when you've got a crossbow?

gplayer5 47 pts

A crossbow? Seriously? Now they're taking ideas from Crysis 3?... -_-

RenegadeGR 21 pts

 gplayer5

there was crossbows in bf2 (in mods that is)

dizz25 11 pts

gplayer5 lol whut? crossbows have been in shooters for a lot longer than Crysis 3. And what do you mean 'now'? As if Battlefield has a rep for stealing ideas or something.

blackwing55 134 pts

dizz25  gplayer5 Thats true also black ops had a crossbow that predates cyrsis 3.

Venatorcruiser 89 pts

 blackwing55  dizz25  gplayer5

Despite some issues that are still in the game i think that dice is really good at realeasing content for BF3, this gives more replay value to the game in a good period of time, no more and no less, this remembers me WoW:BC when blizzard released a lot of raiding content while people was still raiding the previous tiers of content, i think that dice is doing a good job with these expansions.

I can easily see the crossbow as a guerilla weapon, they're used quite a bit across the world and its not hard to imagine a soldier finding one and using it in a modern setting if he was low on supplies. But so far as I know no modern armed force actually issues them to combatants. If it's there to keep in with the guerilla theme of the aftermath maps then that seems fine. But I can't imagine any context for them beyond that.

My father told me the IRA tried using them against British troops in Northern Ireland, but they were very ineffective. Biggest drawback was that they couldn't pierce body armor. Add to that limited range (basically one side of the street to the other) and reload time, you basically have as much chance to kill as throwing a rock at them - suicide against any force armed with rifles.

he probably used a crappy improvised crossbow but if you a proper one they can do serious damage

Who knows. But even a proper crossbow won't get through a trauma plate, no way no how. They MIGHT make it through soft body armor with a narrow point. The problem is the type of point required is also the kind that would do the least amount of damage to the person beneath. A shot that didn't hit a vital organ would be mostly harmless, unlike a hit from from of the nastier, wider tips.

Please DICE, dont get to "copy/paste" like MW!!! and futuristic...! keep it simple, dirty, and realistic!!

killa32130 LOL you're.... but you'll never know what a 12 year old sniper kid can do in a jet....!

killa32130 That's awesome. I didn't even know u could do something like that.

killa32130 That was Chuck Norris playing. Universal physical laws don´t aplly to him.

I have never been a pessimist, but battlefield is now exactly the same as call of duty. Red Orchestra 2 is really the only good shooter to come out within the past few years...

Dav_id83 21 pts

Can I also have a slingshot made from tire inner tubes and some rocks please, crossbows sounds a little too stupid I think but if they had explosive tips that when fired at an enemy they would have a 3 sec fuse that could damage others that'll be cool

MidNightStrikes 68 pts

 Dav_id83

They have 4 Different types of Arrows

-Standard

-Radar

-HE

-Long distance one...(Can;t remember)

Well they stand for what the titles says

Fire and forget Radar Arrows, is  like having the recon kit on every kit

crossbow awesome! what's that you say? crossbow only matches? YEAH. and hopefully they'll add crossbows into gun game. Unless they're used by snipers i don't see many people using crossbows in any of the original game modes. and will there be earthquakes during the game? towards the end maybe? that might be cool at first, but then annoying.

Gryn89 57 pts

I hope the download content after this adds long swords and magic that would be awesome

Spartan_418 1080 pts

A high-tech crossbow makes sense for Crysis 3 since it's a futuristic, post-apocalyptic setting with some emphasis on stealth gameplay: the bow will allow the player to fire while remaining cloaked, unlike other weapons, so it makes sense within the fiction and gameplay.

I fail to see how the crossbow can fit within Battlefield, though; since when are crossbows ever used in modern combat? There's no cloaking in Battlefield, no high-tech power armor. How does a crossbow offer any advantage over a high-caliber gun?

radcrab123 80 pts

 Spartan_418

what if the crossbow is explosive.?

killman961 103 pts

someones gonna get an arrow to the knee......

I JUST WANT SOME KIND OF ONSLAUGHT MODE !!! Honestly, if we don't get something like that in End Game, the $100 that I spent on this game will have been a waste.
