CD Projekt RED Names Cyberpunk 2077, Discusses Challenges of Digital Games

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Oct 18, 2012 12:34 PM | 0 Comments

If you've ever spent time with a pen-and-paper game, you know all the freedom that the format has. Games have inherently less flexibility, and CD Projekt RED is fully aware of that fact as they design Cyberpunk 2077 (previously known as simply Cyberpunk). In a blog post on the Cyberpunk 2077 official site, they discuss the challenge of adaptation in a very frank and interesting manner. I recommend checking it out. Read More »

Hallow's End Has Begun in World of Warcraft

By Mike Nelson | PC News | Oct 18, 2012 12:28 PM | 0 Comments

It seems like holiday decorations have been up in malls across America since late July, trying to convince all of us that the season is just around the corner. But I like to use World of Warcraft are my unofficial start date for the holiday season. For example, in the case of Halloween, I tend to wait until the start of the Hallow's End celebration that... wait, it started already?! I know what game I'm playing when I get home. Read More »

GOG Brings The Deals: Pay What You Want for a Bunch of Interplay Games

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Oct 18, 2012 11:28 AM | 0 Comments

Fallout. Freespace. Descent. MDK. I could go on, but the point is that Interplay defined PC gaming for a ton of people in times past. And what better way to celebrate that than by allowing folks to pay what they want for a huge collection of downright classics for $whatever-you-want. Well, kind of. Read More »

Steam Greenlight Greenlights Greenlight Concepts

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Oct 18, 2012 10:53 AM | 0 Comments

Walking the line is tough. Sure, Steam Greenlight was free to submit to at first, but after a deluge of questionable content, the folks at Valve decided to put up a $100 paywall on potential games there. This was met with a backlash of people saying it harmed the ability of indie developers to get their games out there. Now, Valve has figured out a compromise in the new Greenlight section Concepts. Medal of Honor: Warfighter Multiplayer Trailer

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Oct 18, 2012 10:02 AM | 0 Comments

I like to imagine that there's some video game council out there dedicated to the cause of making sure that there are always enough options for us to shoot each other in the face. Digitally, of course. The latest from this cabal is Medal of Honor: Warfighter, which you can get a good idea of by watching this multiplayer launch trailer. Read More »

Live Longer with Counter-Strike Pro Tips

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Oct 18, 2012 8:47 AM | 0 Comments

Wandering into a Counter-Strike match is kind of like getting mugged. One minute you're a confident FPS veteran strolling down de_dust's alley, the next you're a demoralized n00b with an AK-47 bullet hole in your head. We all could use a little help facing CS regulars. Valve and Hidden Path understand, and they've just launched a new video series featuring tips from Counter-Strike pros that should help you stay alive a little longer and actually rack up a few kills in CS:GO. Rumor: Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage is the Next Borderlands 2 DLC

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Oct 18, 2012 8:03 AM | 0 Comments

Achievements -- you just can't trust 'em. Share your secret plans for the future with them and the next thing you know they're blabbing to every Tom, Dick, and Harry. They outed Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty, and now it appears they've ruined the surprise about Borderlands 2's next expansion, Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage. Read More »

Battlefield 3: Aftermath Expansion Dated, Showed Off in New Trailer

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Oct 18, 2012 7:31 AM | 0 Comments

Fine, I'll say it: with an arsenal of powerful rifles at your disposal and the ability to stick a silencer on just about all of them, opting for the good ol' crossbow seems like a poor choice. Nonetheless, Battlefield 3 fans will have that option when the Aftermath expansion arrives in December, bringing four new maps, a new mode, and, yes, the crossbow. Read More »

Ravaged Review in Progress

By Mike Sharkey | PC Reviews | Oct 17, 2012 4:57 PM | 0 Comments

Hey, Ravaged came out today! With its mix of post-apocalyptic vehicle and FPS combat, it has the potential to be everything a real Rage multiplayer mode could have been. So, is it? Well, I'm not sure yet. I played in the beta, but it offered only a small portion of Ravaged, and what was there was buggier than a Louisiana bayou. What I've played today looks better, though, so follow along as we discover whether or not Ravaged even comes close to reaching its lofty goals. Read More »

Mass Effect 3 Gets New Firepower for Single-Player

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Oct 17, 2012 1:24 PM | 0 Comments

A confession: I haven't seen the "updated" ending to Mass Effect 3 yet. I've been waiting for a good excuse to play through the whole thing again and focusing on the Renegade path. Jerkshep, if you will. I've been on the precipice for a while, and this new Groundside Resistance Weapon Pack may be the push I needed, even if it is just a few extra guns for the Commander to shoot the Illusive Man's goons with. There are pirates, Star Wars sand skiffs, quests galore, and more glittering loot than you could ever hope to cram into your inventory. The first Borderlands 2 content add-on, Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty, will give fans hours of yo-ho-hoing enjoyment, but it's missing one critical component that makes the core game such a triumph: Handsome Jack. XCOM: Enemy Unknown DLC Slightly More Known

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Oct 17, 2012 12:17 PM | 0 Comments

Ten Steam achievements point to what could be a group of DLC missions for XCOM: Enemy Unknown. With titles like "Deluge," "Gangplank," "Friends in Low Places," and "Furies," I expect lots of rain, pirates, Garth Brooks, and The Warriors, respectively. Frankly, I will be disappointed if none of those things come true. Read More »

Careful Now: Steam Security Vulnerability Found

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Oct 17, 2012 10:20 AM | 0 Comments

So, I won't pretend to understand all the tech talk behind any of this, but as PC World reports, a group of researchers going by the name of ReVuin have discovered a vulnerability in the way that Steam launches software. Basically, it means that jerks can get Steam to load up malicious software by going through a steam:// URL. With games that auto-update, it can be used to sneak in bad stuff under the guise of a game update. Read More »
