If your idea of an RV vacation runs toward outdoor activities such as fishing, golfing or hiking, Escondido could be a good choice for you. The community boasts lakes, large parks and golf courses. Escondido’s moderate climate makes this area a good year-round destination, with average daytime high temperatures ranging from 68.8 degrees in January to 88.7 degrees in August.

Location

Interstate 15 is the main north-south route through Escondido. All three Escondido RV resorts sit near this major highway, providing easy access for travelers but also a bit of freeway noise, which may be a consideration for some. All Seasons RV Park and Champagne Lakes RV Resort are in a semirural area north of the city center, while Sunland Escondido RV Park is in a commercial area.

Features

All three resorts have swimming pools, but the pool at Champagne Lakes is open only during warmer months. Both Champagne Lakes and All Seasons offer lakefront locations, though use of the lakes is limited to catch-and-release fishing. All of the resorts have some extended-stay sites. Each of Sunland Escondido’s 125 sites provides full hook-ups. Most Champagne Lakes and All Seasons sites also provide full hook-ups.

Amenities

All three resorts provide laundry, restroom and shower facilities. All Seasons and Champagne Lakes offer on-site convenience stores. While Sunland Escondido lacks a camp store, a variety of shopping options are nearby. Wireless Internet and cable television are available at each park; Sunland Escondido offers 50-amp electrical service on all sites, while the other two parks have some 50-amp sites. Each park provides a playground for young visitors and recreation areas for all guests. The recreation facilities at All Seasons are also open to the public.

Trails

The 3,058-acre Daley Ranch boasts more than 20 miles of trails. Hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers are welcome on the trails, but private motor vehicles are not. Vehicle parking is available on the outskirts of the park. Visitors can enjoy the natural habitat and views at their own pace. A handicap-accessible shuttle operates on Sundays. The San Dieguito River Park along Escondido’s southern border provides many miles of scenic riding and hiking trails.

Lakes

If you prefer gliding along the water to hitting the trails, the Escondido area is home to two recreational lakes, Lake Wohlford and Lake Dixon. You can rent a boat and pay the daily fishing fee or just enjoy a relaxing day boating. If you plan to fish, you will need a California state fishing license. Lakes are part of the municipal water supply, so sports that require body contact with the water are banned. Lake Wohlford closes on weekdays from early September to mid-December, while Lake Dixon is open seven days a week throughout the year.

Golf Courses

Golfers can choose from a number of courses in and around the city of Escondido, which owns the Reidy Creek executive golf course. Several other courses are open to the public. Visiting golfers can schedule tee times at The Vineyard at Escondido, Eagle Crest and Meadow Lake courses. The Welk Resort has two public courses, The Fountains and The Oaks.
