Robin Roberts is trying to gain weight and rest at home before her bone marrow transplant, which has been rescheduled for next week.

The 51-year-old Good Morning America anchor was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, or MDS, earlier this year - a disease which attacks blood cells and bone.

Her sister was found to be a perfect donor match, however the scheduled treatment at a New York hospital was postponed following the news of their mother's death last Thursday.

Keeping fans, friends and family informed via Twitter Robin Tweeted yesterday: 'Back home in NYC. Will rest a few days.

'Doctors orders to put on a lil weight... that's a first. Transplant now sched for next week. Onward.'

The popular GMA co-host, who survived a breast cancer in 2007, has vowed to return to her Good Morning America hosting duties following her treatment.

She bid a temporary farewell to viewers on the ABC morning show last week.

Following her mother's death the TV anchor wrote on the GMA website: 'Today I was supposed to be admitted to the hospital...instead I am here in Mississippi standing proudly with my family as we honor our beloved mother and celebrate her life.

'When I return to NYC and walk through those hospital doors next week momma will be right there with me.'

Lucimarian Roberts, a leader on Mississippi's Gulf Coast for more than 40 years, died on Thursday August 30 at her home in Pass Christian aged 88, the family has not revealed the cause of death.

Robin made a frantic dash to be by her mother's side before she passed away, taking her leave from GMA a day early.

Writing on Facebook later, Robin said her mother did her one last favor by waiting until she was by her side. She revealed she held 'her sweet hand when she took her last breath'.

Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home employees said at least 700 people came to offer their condolences to her children and share their stories of her and hundreds of people waited in line for more than an hour to pay their respects at yesterday's memorial service.

Lara Spencer, Josh Elliot, Sam Champion and Debra Roberts all flew to Mississippi for the visitation including many of Robin's ABC colleagues.

Butch Roberts, Sally-Ann Roberts Nabonne, Dorothy Roberts McEwen and Robin Roberts greeted family and friends and thanked them for the kind words about their mother. They plan to hold a small, private memorial service.
