That's insane. The only games I found on PSN that made me really want to download them is Noby Noby Boy and Gunstar Super Heroes.
I've always been able to use my credit card at the PSN store... and you're right... see game, buy game. Once the CC information is entered... well, you can almost trick yourself into believing it's free (until you see the credit card bill! LOL!)
The one thing that irritates me is that we can't send Canadian PSN cards to the U.S. or vice versa. If I want to buy a clan mate a map pack, there is currently no legitimate way for me to do this. I honestly don't know why they don't offer the PSN cards for sale directly on PSN. Buy a PSN card, send it to the PSN user of your choice and your credit card is billed for the purchase. (though I guess if I bought a Canadian card and sent it to an American friend, it would only be worth the current exchange).
Still.... it's free profit for Sony.
(and more ways for me to indulge in that PSN buying addiction you refer to! LOL!)

Welcome to my world.12 games, 5 ps1 titles, and lord knows how many expansion packs, and I don't even have half of what I want from the psn, but I'm good at pacing myself.
I find loading up on points when I don't need them makes the whole ordeal a bit more guilt free for some reason. I want Echocrhome and Fat Princess this week, not to mention Splosion Man and Monkey Island remake on XBLA, and also Fallout 3 DLC///
Sometimes, I hates my pricy hobby.

I'm not a fan of credit cards either, but...don't they have debit cards in Canada? It's just as good as a credit card except that you can't, you know, spend money that you don't have. Not very American of me I know :)
But, yeah, watch yourself because that dlc shit can get out of control. Using point cards, at least you have to get off of your ass or order online to get them, but with debit/credit cards it's really easy to overspend. I'm sure I've blown over a grand in the last 3 or 4 years easily. I try not to think about it :(

Great blog, I don't have much else to add except "Great blog" :) and I can't wait for PSN cars in the UK.
You couldn't even buy two new games for $110 in retail :) Some great games you got there.

@ Diverse
Haha yeah that's just the mentality I have though. I find it much easier to download a game I sort of want at $4.99 than a game at retail I sort of want for $49.99.
@ Elsa
That is exactly what I'm afraid of if I get a credit card for PSN! And yeah that is a little weird that you can't send DLC gift cross-boarder, but likely does have to do with exchange rates and stuff. I'm pretty sure this isn't a problem for the Wii with the gift-sending though that's probably because the games on VC and WiiWare take the same amount of points in both countries.
@ Nexus
Yeah I know what you mean. I could easily drop another $50 into Burnout DLC alone. I really need to play what I buy before I buy something else.
@ Tubatic
That's how I feel, where it is a lot easier to justify to yourself spending a small amount in case of a "gaming emergency". With an empty wallet and Fat Princess ready to drop, I'm in serious need of another card.
@ Brainderailment
Oh I've been ready for Castle Crashers for a long time. Just waiting for a release date is killing me.
@ Blasto
Well that's what I like about the PSN Cards, I can't buy them if I don't have money. We have debit cards but I hate using it because I know I'll spend too much and really only use it for emergencies or large purchases. I usually just take money out at the bank and spend what I have on me. It doesn't stop my spending, but I like to think I use my money more wisely and slowly this way haha. And I'm already seeing what you mean about the DLC. Of all the map packs I really have only put significant time into the 2nd one for KZ2. Video games really are an expensive hobby.

Thanks!! And yeah I guess that's true. Now that I think about it I really don't see new games for $30 new. Maybe the DS will pull through for me on this one haha ^_^

This looks like a really interesting blog. I will read it later, because I've got friends over. Looking forward to it.
@ Takeshi
Looks can be deceiving haha. Honestly, my brain exploded onto the computer screen and resulted in this jumbled mess. I think I need to get my ramblings under control.

That was a great read, exactly what I expected. Don't get your ramblings under control man, this is what I want a blog to be.
I was particularly interested because, like you said, we're finally getting PSN cards over here. I've got a whole list of DLC I want to get my hands on. We've also got some PSone classics that the US doesn't have. And finally I want to give something back to the friends I'm sharing with.
Once again, great read!

Haha thanks ^_^. I enjoy the rambling blogs as well but I know there are people out there that prefer to have these blogs get right down to business and cut out the fluff. I found it hard to cut anything out of this though as I needed it all to allow people to see through my perspective and where I was coming from.
Soon enough your wallet will experience the same pain mine has felt. Though it really does make sitting more comfortable :P

I'd probably find PSN cards very good, if I didn't already use my credit card for it. Which I only use for two things as of now, which is PSN stuff, and gasoline for my car. That's all I use the thing for, everything else is pretty much me using regular dollar bills, since that makes it easier for me to keep track what I use my card on.
I know things will change for me in the future, I'll eventually use my card on more stuff, then I'll go the route of the PSN cards. Seriously, PSN has actually been getting good downloadables lately, and I haven't even gotten all I want yet, and they're coming out with more crap I want later during the year. I'll never be able to get everything I want from PSN if this keeps going on. :(
Also, probably just me here, but I really see Valkyria Chronicles as a downloadable game than something in retail. Maybe it's because the way the art style presents itself to me, it feels so indie in a way, I dunno. Sega should try that out, I don't think it would hurt them much.

The other day I realized I have over 60 titles purchased on the XBLA. Sure my girlfriend bought a couple of those, and a couple were free (dash of destruction, aegis wing) but really, those 60 or so titles represent approximately $600 if my calculations are correct. Looking at the collections I have amassed for previous generations of consoles, $600 isn't much, but then I realize that it doesn't count all of the retail games I've bought, which is well over 40 at this point. And this is just counting the Xbox. I also have a ton of games purchased on steam, 2 on the Wii and 2 more on the DSi. And none of that takes into account DLC. Downloadble games are killing me and I love it. Seriously though, you know you have a problem when you have to limit yourself to 5,000 Microsoft points (approx $65) a month. I have around 10 trial games, sitting on my Xbox's hard drive, only existing because I intend on purchasing the full version....someday. =(
This was a fantastic blog. Absolutely fantastic. Great read.
Personally, being a collector, I try to avoid digital distribution as much as possible. Hell, I would rather buy game boxes with cards in them for downloads (ie. Patapon 2) than just a card. I LOVE physical media. :)

Yeah I've been really impressed with the PSN titles as of late as well. Battlefield 1943 came out of nowhere for me. The titles coming out later have really got me excited. Pixeljunk Shooter wasn't even on my radar until the PlayStation Blog posted a walkthrough this afternoon.
And I'd absolutely love for VC to be rereleased through the PSN Store. I've seen the game a couple of times since I first started looking for it again but the $80 price tag is a pretty big road block. I know it's a great game but I just don't feel right dropping that much on one game. But considering that I heard that a reason why the 360 didn't get VC was because Sega wouldn't cut stuff to make it fit onto one DVD, I don't imagine that the game would be download-friendly :(. Also, my 40 gig harddrive is bursting at the seams.
@ DaedHead8
So you are basically the expert in the field of digital distribution addictions :P. That is a lot of games and that makes me jealous!! Can't imagine how you play all of them though. I guess especially when the games are in the $5 range, it's almost worth buying the games just so that you can create your own opinion of a game. Make sure that no hidden gems slip under your nose. And when you have to choose between spending $600 on 60 digital games or 10 retail games, the value of digital distribution is too good to pass up. The tab where all your games fall under most look pretty amazing.
I read your blog and really agree with you on the convenience of having access to all your games right at your finger tips. That is why I'm 100% behind the PSPgo and digital distribution in the handheld market. I hate having to carry all my games with me when I go on a trip or someplace. Just too big of a hassle.

Thanks man!! Yeah digital distribution must be pretty scary for collectors such as yourself. I used to be somewhat against going digital but after downloading movies and music and having that instant access, the convenience is just something I can't ignore anymore. Plus all my handheld and Dreamcast games are everywhere and I get a bit tired of cleaning them up and hunting them down haha. I think having everything tied to my PSN account provides a bit of comfort as if my PS3 dies I can still redownload everything. But I try not to think about the possibility of my PSN ID being hacked haha.
I was wondering if Sony will continue to do that once the PSPgo drops. I figured they would release a UMD version to go a long with what is released on the PSN Store. But yeah, if they do what they did with Patapon 2 (which I really need to try out), then it would remove a lot of confusion for PSPgo owners who purchase a game unable to understand where the UMD fits in. I really wouldn't mind buying prepaid cards that come in game boxes. It's like the exact middle of the road.

Congrats on getting Topsauce in today's Cblog Recaps!
Interesting story. I have the same problem with buying XBLA cards at random times; usually when they catch my eye.

Completely agree with on the convenience, it's definitely a reason why I've played so much Burnout. Not having to get up to change discs is the natural continuation of wireless controllers sort of, I love it.
Gotta love the PSN, it has a ton of quality titles.
I didn't know about the no tax thing, I may have to pick up some physical cards, I see them in 7-11 all the time.

i have this problem with xbla, im at about 20 arcade games 3 map packs and 9 dlc add ons i had to talk a family member into putting their debit card on my xbox for my 6 and 12 dollar quick fixes
@ CWal37
Plus it helps that Burnout is an addictive racer on its own :P. I haven't seen PSN Cards in convenience stores yet, been trying not too look, but I'm thinking I'm screwed once they do start showing up there.
@ Slayer
I'm guessing they didn't understand how much you would be spending when they agreed to let you take their card, right? :P
@ Emotoaster
Thanks man, I'm trying to stay strong haha.
