'I love Rylan. Show him some love': Robbie Williams shows his support for Rylan Clark during X Factor performance... as he treats Louis Walsh to a lapdance

He's made no secret of his love for controversial X Factor contestant Rylan Clark, and has already proclaimed he is strictly in 'Team Rylan'.

But Robbie Williams took his fascination with the 24-year-old wannabe to a whole new level as he performed on Sunday night's results show.

Taking to the stage for a rendition of his new single, Candy, the 38-year-old singer interspersed his performance to declare 'Go Rylan' to the audience.

Risking the wrath of former Take That bandmate, Gary Barlow, who has taken a dislike to the eccentric hopeful, Robbie then urged his pal to go easy on Rylan.

Speaking to Dermot O'Leary, he said: 'He's been a bit serious with Rylan and I love Rylan. Show him some love, Gaz.'

But it wasn't just Rylan who was receiving a lot of love from Robbie, with the Angels hitmaker even treating judge Louis Walsh to a cheeky lapdance in the middle of his performance.

And Robbie admitted he is very impressed by show favourite Ella Henderson.

He said: 'Ella blew me away with her voice, I thought she was amazing.'

This isn't the first time Robbie has declared his love for the Essex hopeful, with the pair having a bond during a masterclass earlier this week.

Robbie told Rylan: 'I'm a big, big fan and I want you in my family's life. In some way, shape or form, I wanna see you on the TV an awful lot and bump into you backstage at places and say, 'Hey, how are you doing?'

He also taunted Gary, claiming he was backing Rylan - who is mentored by Nicole Scherzinger - to win the show.

Robbie added: 'Gaz, I don't know what this young man has done to offend you so much and I don't understand how you are missing out on the obvious brilliance and talent of Rylan. But I am not - I am strictly Team Rylan all the way.'

Rylan was booed by the audience members as he was told he had made it through to next week's show on Sunday night, and promptly picked up Nicole and wrapped her legs around his waist as he shrieked with delight.

Boogie nights: Nicole, Gary and Tulisa couldn't keep the smiles off their faces as Robbie jumped on a shocked Louis

But Jade Ellis and Union J weren't so lucky, having to face each other in a shock-sing off which ultimately saw Jade voted off the show.

On Saturday night's show, Rylan treated the audience to a typically theatrical version of Britney Spears' Toxic, wearing a pair of white trousers, patterned waistcoat and lace appliqued on to his face.

He then merged into a version of Mousse T's Horny and Nicole's own track Poison, taking the opportunity to dance on the judges' table - right in front of his biggest fan, Gary Barlow.

Excitable: Nicole Scherzinger jumped up into Rylan's arms when they heard he had made it through to the next week of The X Factor

Tulisa said: 'You might not have the strongest voice but every time on the stage you deliver to the best of your ability.'

Gary said: 'It's hard to imagine how I ever fell out with Robbie Williams, isn't it? I owe it to you giving him an honest critique. It wasn't any worse than last week and the music was so loud that I couldn't hear you singing - that was a good thing. The dancers were good - is that enough?'

Nicole said: 'For me that was my favourite performance from you so far. You had fun, you let go and it's all about team Robbie Williams for me!'

Rylan then told Gary: 'I really do want to impress you, so if I get through this week, I'll leave all this and I'll stand here and sing you a song.'

It's over: Jade Ellis was voted off the competition following a shock sing-off against boyband Union J

Saturday should see the stripped back Ryland without the dancers and wacky costumes, singing a ballad to Gary. It's what he said he would do if he got through to another next week and now he'd better make good on that statement. - StowTrini , London, United Kingdom, 29/10/2012 08:15............ Are people forgetting he's already done the stripped back "singing" thng? First show sing-off against Carolyn!?!? And he was TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!

The decission is always about who will make more money. And the truth is, You can make a few million touting a boyband around the country..,but you only break-even with boring girl singer. It is a ruthless business decission & has nothing to do with her wonderful voice!
