Established as 802 Air Division on 9 May 1952. Activated on 28 May 1952. Discontinued on 20 Jun 1960.

Wings. 40 Bombardment: 28 May 1952-20 Jun 1960 (detached 6 Feb-1 May 1953, 9 Jun-9 Sep 1955, and c. 1 Jul-c. 1 Oct 1957). 310 Bombardment: 28 May 1952-20 Jun 1960 (detached 28 May-4 Sep 1952, 10 Mar-8 Jun 1955, and 3 Oct 1956-9 Jan 1957).

Activated in Kansas from May 1952-Jun 1960, the 802d manned, trained, and equipped the 40th and 310th Bombardment Wings. This mission involved training in long-range bombardment and air refueling operations. The division participated in exercises such as Phillip Morris, Parade Ground, and Pacesetter.

Per fess reverse arched and enhanced azure and gules, on a plate winged to chief or two huerts conjoined palewise between two olive branches vert, in pale overall a falling bomb gray tarnished with two mullets palewise argent, in chief in dexter a dexter mailed hand of the last grasping a lightning flash fesswise of the second and in sinister a scroll surmounted by a quill pen saltirewise of the sixth all within a diminished border of the fifth.
