Operations

The 822d Airlift Division assured the manning, training, and equipping of assigned units to conduct long range bombardment missions from Jan 1959-Sep 1966. It conducted numerous staff assistance visits and monitored tactical exercises such as Operations Spruce Up and Chrome Dome. During the Cuban Missile crisis in Nov 1962, the division and its subordinate units assumed an increased alert posture.

Emblem

Azure, three clouds proper outlined dark blue, surmounted by in pale point to base a comb of the last with nose and tail sections gules fimbriated and highlighted argent between issuant from chief four lightning flashes or edged of the fourth all within a diminished border of the fifth. (Approved 5 Aug 1959).
