She has struggled to match her fellow celebrity contestants so far on the tough all-star season of Dancing with the Stars.

But Kirstie Alley outshone her fellow competitors in the raunch stakes tonight, first with a sultry rumba and then in a cheeky country group dance with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy,

At one point during an chaotic ensemble, the former Cheers actress mimed an energetic slapping to her partner's behind, much to judge Len Goodman's delight.

Earlier, the couple's rumba to Blake Shelton's Home led Kirstie to be dubbed 'the queen of sexy' by Carrie Ann Inaba.

'It was a passionate rumba,' said Carrie Ann. 'You got lost in it. I got lost in it.'

The judge also referred to Kirstie's ongoing weight loss on the show, calling her the 'incredibly shrinking woman.'

'I thought that was the expression of gorgeousness of a real women,' added Bruno.  'Your arms are so expressive. You can tell a story with your little finger.'

Len was not so enamoured, saying: 'I thought you coped well with a difficult dance. I'd like to have seen a little more hip action. I liked it but not that much.'

Earlier in rehearsals, Kirstie was seen getting frustrated with juggling the gruelling demands of rehearsals with managing her career and two children.

'I can't do it,' she told Maksim at one point.  'I am dying. I have to take some mini breaks here. This week is incredibly crazy for me. I'm still the mother of two children, I have a business to run. I'm not joking either - I'm 60 years old.'

Despite the couple's difficulties, they ended up scoring their highest points of the competition so far, with a 27.5 total.

Meanwhile, Maksim's brother Val Chmerkovskiy was nervous after he and partner Kelly Monaco ended up bottom of the leaderboard last week.

'The hardest part of the tango is probably, the tango,' Kelly said during rehearsals, while Val admitted the gruelling contest was getting a bit much for them both.

'The competition is physically exhausting as well so we're finding all a bit overwhelming,' he said.

Nevertheless, the couple looked striking and graceful as the danced to Carrie Underwood’s Good Girl, with Kelly twirling around in an elaborate red feathered sequinned gown.

Sporting an eye-catching sequinned feathered red dress, Kelly seemed relieved when the judges declared the dance a 'comeback.'

'That was a very ambitious exchange,' added Carrie Ann. 'You are still the most exciting competitor for me because each week something changes and shifts.'

Len said: 'It was a little bit hectic on occasions but you kept it under control,' and the pair came away with a total of 27.

There was all to play for with the scores from last week's shows combined with Monday's points, with one couple set to be sent home on Tuesday's elimination show.

Having been a hit last week, actor Gilles Marini was hoping to add to his successful streak, despite his lack of knowledge of country music.

'You were born in New Zealand. I was born in France. I can probably pretend to be a cowboy if I don't talk,' he told partner Peta Murgatroyd during rehearsals for the cha cha.

The pair came out well to Shania Twain number Man I Feel Like A Woman, with Gilles showing off his toned body in a mesh top teamed with leather trousers.

Len was impressed with the actor's enthusiasm, saying: 'You come out and give it 100%. There's no half measures. A little bit loose in the legs tonight, but well done. That's what I want to see - attack!'

An appreciative Bruno said the dance was 'sexy and kinky,' and the couple were awarded a 27.5.

Louis van Amstel and Sabrina Bryan did a little better in their dance, becoming the first couple of the night to be awarded a perfect 30 for their emotional interpretation of the rumba to song Wanted by Hunter Hayes.

The dance was an interpretation of Sabrina's relationship with a drug-addicted ex-boyfriend.

'I went through a relationship where my boyfriend was really addicted to drugs because he couldn't even help himself,' she told her partner. ' I was helpless. I couldn't do anything to help him.'

Len was impressed with the 'balance' of the dance, while Carrie Ann praised its 'breathtaking' nature. 'I had chills the whole time,' she said.

Bruno agreed, calling it: 'A sumptuous sequence of intriguing shape. And always it had an emotional thread to it. Your solo was seamless.'

Less harmonious, but equally successful with a score of 30, were Apolo Anton Ohno  and Karina Smirnoff who admitted that their poor performance last week was down to a 'fight' prior to their dance on Monday.

'It affected our chemistry,' said Apolo, while Karina admitted she got frustrated with Apolo's inability to open up and show his emotions during rehearsals. 'I wanted more from him and he didn't want to show his emotions,' she said.

Apolo agreed he would try to open up for Monday's Vienese Waltz, which they dedicated to people in their lives who have suffered from cancer.

Fortunately, this week, they were in perfect sync as they danced to Skin by Rascal Flatts

'It was light. It was two people in perfect harmony with the music,' said a delighted Len, while Bruno declared the skater a 'leading man.'

Carrie Ann said: 'That was poetry, emotion and dance, and it's so nice to see you connected that way. I'm so proud of you because that's what we've been waiting for. This was your breakthrough number.'

With Melissa Rycroft's neck still painful, partner Tony Dovoloni was relieved to also get the relatively sedate Viennese Waltz as their dance this week.

Tony had some cause for worry when Melissa claimed she could not feel her neck after a few hours of rehearsals, but the couple ended up dancing up a storm to Why Ya Wanna by Jana Kramer.

The couple's efforts even managed to impress hard-to-please judge Len who stood up and applauded the couple in a rare gesture.

'Great technique and wonderful movement. You've got the how and you've got the now,' he declared, while Bruno told them they were 'weightless and fluid.'

However, Carrie Ann upset both men when she criticised Melissa's arm movements, with an incensed Bruno declaring she was 'talking rubbish.'

Melissa won tens from Len and Bruno, with Carrie Ann deducting half a point, giving them a 9.5.

The judges were also divided over Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson and partner Derek Hough's efforts on the floor after they performed a farm inspired cha cha cha to Kenny Chesney's She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy.

'You are the sexy one,' Bruno declared. 'I likes the fusion of country step in cha cha cha. It was incredible. So synchronised'

Carrie Ann agreed, saying: 'The way you articulation every movement is so exciting to watch.'

However Len was unimpressed with the gimmicks in the number. 'I thought the choreography was fantastic,' he said. 'I thought the movement was fantastic. But I don't want all this frippery. I don't want tractors, I don't want cows.'

Their mixed scores gave Derek and Shawn a total of 28, which was made all the more impressive after Shawn suffered problems with her troublesome knee during rehearsals.

'I'm worried this could end my run on Dancing with the Stars,' said Shawn, admitted she had injured herself while 'messing around' with Sabrina during last week's group dance.

'I can tell something's wrong with Shawn because she's not as responsive as normal,' Derek confided to viewers, adding he would have to tweak the choreography to accommodate the injury.

Football star Emmitt Smith was finding the all-star season equally gruelling.

'It's a matter of survival of the fittest,' the sweaty star said during rehearsals for the couple's foxtrot, which they performed to classic country number Islands in the Stream by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.

And despite not being a fan of the genre, Emmitt got stuck into a few cowboy moves during his brief solo section.

However, the judges weren't too sure, with Carrie Ann saying the couple started out looking a little out of sync.

Bruno added: 'At times you lost a couple of passes, but overall, I thought it was absolutely a country funfair,' but Len complained that the number 'lacked finesse,' and the couple received a disappointing 26.5 in total.

The contestants were also tutored in a group country dance with Emmit predicting 'chaos' on the dancefloor.

The ensemble wowed the audience with an energetic group dance to Big & Rich’s Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy), complete with solo efforts.

'We've awarded the extra points to the couple who were the most fun and the most entertaining,' said Len, before handing the bonus two points to Kirstie and Maksim.

Has DWTS become a glamorous fat camp? It's touching that obese people lose so much weight dancing - but do we have to bear witness? Augh!

Kirstie was terrible last night, especially during the group dance. I don't get the judge's LOVE for her. She is terrible in comparison to the others. The other pairs are all at a pretty equal level. I realize that she is in her 60s, but, as Len says, the judges have to judge what they see....so they need to take the blinders off. Kirstie can't keep up with easier routines in the group dances. She loses her timing & can't execute the steps properly. Her participation in the Gangnam dance last week was atrocious!!!

If she ever brushed that rats nest on her head. Yuck!!

There must be something between the judges and Kirstie - no way in "you know what" should they have gotten the two extra points and their dance was by far the worst of any of the other contestants. And, why should one couple get critized for using an opening prop when others did the same thing and nothing was said by the judges?

This whole thing is a joke all the others really can dance and to have Kirstie in there is a total EMBARASSMENT to the others. Every week the others do things and are so better than she is and they pick on everyone else but Kirstie you did great!!!! They can't be honest and TELL THE TRUTH!!!! Im sorry to say this but Val an Kelly im sure will be taken off tonight. ITS ALL FIXED!!!!

This "competition" is fixed. There is no way that Kirstie was the best dancer last night. The three judges know a good performance when they see one. Why the fix is in is anybody's guess.
