Lust For Life! Portia De Rossi, 39, channels Miley Cyrus, 19, with rocker clothing and cropped hair

She may be approaching 40 but she still has what it takes to keep up with youthful celebrity trend-setters.

Despite being 20 years her senior, Portia De Rossi appeared to be emulating the fast-becoming-iconic look of Miley Cyrus on Tuesday.

The 39-year-old – who already sports cropped blonde hair like the 19-year-old singer and actress – stepped out wearing edgy rocker-style clothing.

The wife of TV presenter Ellen DeGeneres, was seen wearing cropped grey skinny jeans with a T-shirt featuring the face of a young Iggy Pop.

The message is very apt considering the actress very good for her age.

She teamed her trendy attire with black ankle boots and a bowling bag featuring large zip.

Portia was the image of a woman half her age as she walked down the street in West Hollywood, California covering her eyes with large aviator sunglasses and tied her denim jacket around her waist.

The star appeared to be heading back to her car as she dangled her vehicle keys between her fingers, following a visit to a salon on Melrose Avenue.

Her partner DeGeneres received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humour at a special tribute show on Monday night with her stunning wife looking on.

The 54-year-old talk show host was celebrated by a host of celebrities including fellow chat show host Jimmy Kimmell, Glee's Jane Lynch, the sassy Kristin Chenoweth and The Office star John Krasinski at the event which was held at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC.

After receiving the gong, a suited and booted Ellen joked: 'I'm flattered. It's fantastic. Of course I think, 'What took so long?'"

Portia, 39, who looked stunning in a fitted orange-red dress with her new short hairstyle tousled prettily, said: 'I am very, very proud of Ellen. She's not only the funniest person I know, but she's such a good person.

Having looked at those two women (and their haircuts), I completely fail to see how you can say that one is 'channeling' the other (whatever that means) - and particularly that the 39 year old got her inspiration from the 19 year old. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if Portia couldn't pick out Miley Cyrus in a line-up.

So at 39 you have to stop wearing jeans and a t shirt? But those are wardrobe basics! BASICS! Who doesn't own a t shirt and a pair of jeans? I won't be 39 for a good decade yet but gosh, DM likes making women getting older sound so dreary...what a shame, because she looks great.

What stupid comments on here - How do people expect others to dress at 40? Portia looks amazing - she looks better than people I know half her age!!!
