'They think she could be the UK's Oprah:' Cheryl Cole in talks to sign 'lucrative' deal to host her own chat show

She's steered clear of television work after being sacked from her role as a judge on the US X Factor last year.

But Cheryl Cole could be set to make a triumphant return to the small screen after being offered a 'lucrative contact' to host her very own chat show.

And Sky1 bosses are hoping her personable nature could see her follow in the footsteps of US chat show queen, Oprah Winfrey.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper: 'Sky1 are desperate to get Cheryl to sign up. They’ve been in talks for a while and believe they will have wrapped up the deal within the next month.'

Television chiefs are said to hope Cheryl's reputation as 'the nation's sweetheart' will see her become the new Oprah, and guarantee an 'emotional and confessional' show.

Meanwhile, Cheryl's team - including her manager will.i.am - are said to be desperate to see the Girls Aloud singer re-launch her television career.

The source added: 'Cheryl’s people think she would come across brilliantly. On X Factor she found it easy to connect with people, and viewers loved her for it.'

The star was famously axed from the US X Factor by show boss Simon Cowell after just four rounds of auditions.

Cheryl later turned down a reported £1 million offer to return to the UK version of the talent series.

But she made a surprise return to the ITV1 show earlier this year when she accompanied Gary Barlow at the judges' houses stage of the competition.

The Geordie beauty later took to Twitter after Simon Cowell tweeted 'Welcome back Cheryl' to insist that she hadn't make the decision to please her former boss,

She said: 'I saw Simon's tweet. I'm not doing this for him. I am doing this for Gary as he's my friend and he asked me to do it.'

Cheryl has had a busy time of late after recently completing a UK solo tour and releasing her debut autobiography, Cheryl: My Story, last month.

Next year will see the star reunite with her Girls Aloud bandmates Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts, Sarah Harding and Nadine Coyle for a UK tour and greatest hits album.
