A rape suspect got a hefty dose of payback last week after his alleged victim was able to snatch away his gun and shot him.

Duane Portman Sr, 44, of Springfield, Ohio, was arrested on Thursday after cops said he raped the female on September 2 at about 3am.

The victim told police that she was taken by Portman to the Labelz 4 Less clothing store, which is located in Springfield.

There, the victim said that he held her at gunpoint while raping her.

But police said that as she struggled with her attacker, the victim was able to grab the gun and pull the trigger, striking Portman in the face.

Portman donned a thick bandage over his right eye as he appeared in court on Friday, when he pleaded not guilty to rape and kidnapping charges.

ABC 22 reported that he was ordered held in the Clark County Jail on $50,000 bond.

The owner of the store told ABC 22 that Portman works there part-time as a cleaner.

The victim, who was not identified, drove herself to a nearby hospital after shooting Portman.

A regular shopper of the store, Angela Bozar, told ABC 22: 'I'm glad she's safe - and I guess he deserved what was coming to him.'

WHIO-TV reported that before Portman was arrested, he told officers that he couldn’t remember who had shot him or where the shooting took place.
