Anna Wintour, Marc Jacobs and Carine Roitfeld are said to be staying in the same hotel, as superstorm Sandy plunged each of their downtown apartments into darkness.

According to the New York Post , the three fashion moguls relocated to The Mark, in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, earlier this week.

Other big names spotted at the venue, where suites go for up to $4,495 a night, include model Helena Christensen, Russell Crowe - who is in town filming the Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic Noah, - Jonah Hill and Emma Stone.

A source told the tabloid: ‘The scene at The Mark was buzzing with big names escaping the downtown blackout.

‘Emma Stone and Jonah Hill were at the bar, while Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld and André Balazs were at different tables in the restaurant.’

The Lowell Hotel on East 63rd Street, the Loews Regency on Park Avenue and the Plaza Athenee on East 64th Street are said to be other celebrity hotspots.

And Vogue creative director Grace Coddington is thought to be content with the comfortable surroundings of The Carlyle.

Meanwhile Katie Holmes reportedly decided to stay put at her apartment at the Chelsea Mercantile, along with her daughter Suri.

In New York City alone, more than 250,000 residents south of 26th Street remain without electricity after an explosion at a Manhattan power plant.

Consolidated Edison say they do not know whether the explosion was caused by flooding or by flying debris.

DM tell me the difference between Katie and Suri and the 250,000 other nameless people you mention who weathered the storm without any power. surely we are more interested in how the other 250 thousand spent the night, would have been much more interesting storey to read. Just glad that Katie and Suri had a torch surprised their hotel didnt try and hook up a generator for them so they could use their spa.

while my heart breaks for many, i have to be honest- i get a feeling of....well, they are rich, they can rebuild, and what do you expect when you build fancy houses NEXT to oceans and rivers. somehow seeing a LUXURY "beach house" swept away gives me a little tickle.
