Romney says he SUPPORTS parts of Obamacare and wants to keep some provisions

Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who promised early in his campaign to repeal President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, says he would keep several important parts of the overhaul.

'Of course there are a number of things that I like in health care reform that I'm going to put in place,' he said in an interview broadcast Sunday on NBC's 'Meet the Press.' 'One is to make sure that those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage.'

Romney also said he would allow young adults to keep their coverage under their parents' health-insurance.

Those provisions have been two of the more popular parts of Obama's Affordable Care Act.

'I say we're going to replace Obamacare. And I'm replacing it with my own plan,' Romney said. 'And even in Massachusetts when I was governor, our plan there deals with pre-existing conditions and with young people.'

In the interview, Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, also said he would offset his proposed tax cuts by closing loopholes for high income taxpayers.

'We're not going to have high-income people pay less of the tax burden than they pay today. That's not what's going to happen,' he said.

When pressed, however, Romney declined to provide an example of a loophole he would close.

'I can tell you that people at the high end, high-income taxpayers, are going to have fewer deductions and exemptions. Those numbers are going to come down. Otherwise they'd get a tax break. And I want to make sure people understand, despite what the Democrats said at their convention, I am not reducing taxes on high-income taxpayers,' Romney said.

Romney also defended his decision to say nothing about the war in Afghanistan or the U.S. troops serving there during his acceptance speech last month at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.

He said that he'd been to Afghanistan and the troops 'know of my commitment.'

'I have some differences on policy with the president. I happen to think those are more important than what word I mention in each speech,' he said.

Romney said repeatedly that he would repeal and replace Obamacare. You right right wingers don't go off the deep end. The key word here "replace". Hopefully you don't think "replace" means replace it with nothing. Keep with your rigid hard headiness and you'll guarantee the socialist, if not communist, in chief for another 4 years. Get off your butts and do all you can to elect Romney. The alternative is more destruction and will be putting the no payers in complete control. Think illegal aliens and welfare receivers determining the country's future. George Soro - I can say it. You won't hear it in Obama media. He's the biggest destructer of all. Think MoveOn.org and their clones. HoJo, you got it mostly right.

.....stock market collapse (compare the market to the Bush years), a new war in Afghanistan when he said he was going to bring the troops home......... Hojo, Virginia Beach, United States What stock market collapse? What new war in Afghanistan? When Obama took office the DOW Jones was in the 8000 range. Its now hoovering in high 12,000 - low 13,000. The war in Afghanistan, the main issue (capturing Osama and weakened Taliban is accomplished), and the war is winding down.

I knew it! I told all my buddies supporting Romney that Romney is a leftist! All they ever tell me though is he is less left than Obama. Either way though I am voting for Romney because the simple fact of the matter is Obama is running this country horribly. Look at the facts and figures...unemployment rate, insane deficit increase in onlyl 3 years, stock market collapse (compare the market to the Bush years), a new war in Afghanistan when he said he was going to bring the troops home. Now we know Obama can't even use an iPhone, if you can use a blackberry and not an iPhone there is something missing in you mentally.

Please, please, please before you spout the words- communist, marxist, socialist - look them up in the dictionary so you don't sound so stupid.

How is that socialist society working out over there? I hear the health care cost is enormous and the VAT is terrible. But you must pay to be equal. Except for the wealth, they are still wealthy.

Koch brothers face palm. Can anybody say George Soros?

Yep, he's gotta keep fiddling with his 'policies' like plasticine--anything to maximise those poll numbers. I'm still amazed that the Republicans fielded such a pathetic lot of candidates, among whom Romney was only the least weak. So much talent in the USA, so much cash in the Republican Party, and that was the best they could find?
