With Kristen Stewart's fling with director Rupert Sanders fresh in the minds of many Twilight fans, it can't have been a task she looked forward to.

But the actress looked relaxed and happy as she sat down for her first television interview with on-off-on again boyfriend and co-star Robert Pattinson.

The stars sat down with co-star Taylor Lautner for televised chats on MTV News and Entertainment Tonight on Thursday, to promote the forthcoming last instalment in the franchise, Breaking Dawn: Part II.

Topic for discussion were strictly franchised focussed, although did occasionally stray to Stewart and Pattinson's Halloween costumes and the trio's attitudes towards the press.

Stewart sat in the middle of the three stars, looking pretty in a blue and black top and black jeans while Pattinson sported a dark green blazer and shirt.

The real-life couple, who play Bella Swan and Edward Cullen in the hit franchise, are reported to have briefly split up after Stewart was photographed kissing her Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders back in July.

Now, with the relationship very much back on, a relaxed Stewart admitted she would miss 'doing' press with her co-stars after four years.

'For the last few press junkets, they've been separating everyone which is silly. I think because we love hanging out,' she said.

The couple, who rarely discuss their relationship in public, seemed more than happy to talk about the Halloween party they attended together on Wednesday night.

'Oh yes, it looks awesome,' she said eyeing the photograph of herself in a pink bobbed wig and sunglasses. 'That's not fair. That's actually a really weird [photo].'

But Pattinson was initially reluctant to admit he was the man behind the creepy clear mask with eyebrows painted on.

'That's not me,' he exclaimed, laughing, admitting: 'I chose someone who is just genuinely terrifying. It was a $3 mask from a 7-Eleven.'

Stewart's choice was apparently an homage to one of her favourite movies Closer - a film about couples and infidelity, and Natalie Portman wears a pink wig in some scenes.

'If you've seen that, that's one aspect of [Portman's] character. She changes a lot in that movie, but that's one part, yeah.'

Pattinson was his usual self-deprecating self in the interview, deflecting problematic questions with humour.

'I'd imagine it's quite like the scene where she's doing the pottery in Ghost,' he quipped, when quizzed about a sex scene in the film.

The cast also recalled the audition process for the first Twilight film, with Stewart having had a say in who director Catherine Hardwicke cast as Edward and Taylor's character Jacob Black.

'I take full credit for both of these guys actually,' she said sarcastically when asked if she was partially responsible for their success.

'I'm going to take credit for Kristen's,' chipped in Pattinson, who recalled he was 'crippled by nervousness' during his initial audition for the part which also involved having to take his shirt off.

'I said to Catherine "if this is what we're being judged on, I haven't got the job.'

Later on in the chat, the notoriously press-shy Stewart was mortified when footage was played of her conducting an interview at the MTV Awards back in 2008 - and even got up from her chair and started pacing in embarrassment

'Why? Why?' she said, adding sarcastically. 'That's a photo album, favourite thing for me.'

'People had no idea who were were,' added Pattinson. 'I did three interviews that day saying I was in Narnia.'

The stars were also asked about their memories from the franchise, with Pattinson recalling that fans of the Stephenie Meyer penned books were not exactly thrilled about his casting at first.

'Unanimous unhappiness, he remembered. 'I think it's come full circle and they hate me again.'

Clearly, the rest is history, with the trio reminded that the franchise had bagged 16 MTV Awards  - more than any other - including best kiss between Bella and Edward.

The trio were also joined by Twilight author Meyer who discussed her thoughts on the actors.

Earlier, the author had told Entertainment Tonight in another sit-down chat that there was the possibility of another instalment in Twilight 'someday.'

Pattinson also discussed the contrast between the first film and the latest one, which is released in the U.S. on November 16.

'It felt quite free and dangerous,' he mused. 'This one - the bigger something gets - it gets pretty heavy. You're part of a machine at that point.

'You know your face is still going to be on the front of it. But you have a little bit less control  - a lot less control. So it was kind of scary.'

Meanwhile, Twilight actors Charlie Bewley and Daniel Cudmore defended co-star Kristen.

Bewley and Cudmore, who play vampires Demetri and Felix in four of the franchise's films told HollywoodLife.com: 'Think of how many mistakes you made at 22 years old. Like, I made a million.

'The problem is we're in the spotlight, but, whatever. It's a relationship, and people go through ups and downs and they have their problems.'

And Bewley confessed he himself had cheated once or twice before, adding: 'Honestly, I used to cheat so much it would be very hypocritical of me to pass judgment on Kristen.

'I know what it's like to have an inflated libido. Probably why I'm not in a relationship right now.'

I am not condemning the film or the actors. Wish you all the best. Art and literature are part and parcel of human imagination. And they are necessary in our lives. But, there are some things people should know. Ghosts and Vampires cant do any harm to us. They don't drink blood. Millions and millions of people have died on this earth. How many of us have seen the dead return to life as vampires or ghosts? No none. Stories are stories. May be that's where we have failed to make the next generation understand the real things. If all these millions of people who lived on this earth become ghosts we wouldn't be able to walk on this earth. We would be dashing against so many ghosts. Any takers there to what I am saying? God has created this universe in a special way. God doesn't live on any planet in this universe or galaxy or this solar system. Yet He is everywhere. He is part and parcel of every minutest particle whether living or non-living. He is the most amazing thing we can know of.

It's a twisted situation but they could possibly be one of those couples where the "affair" made them stronger than ever!! Wishing them happiness...they do look genuinely in love with each other.

I beginning to think the WHOLE break-up, affair with the director etc was a publicity stunt! It worked we had headlines for weeks about these two!! Would they break up, would Robert "forgive" Kriste, Robert moves out, stays with friends, Kriste depressed!!! It went on and on and on YAWN!!!!!!!! Now we are friends again! Who cares anymore, we are bored stiff with the constant teenage drama.

i agree with "Shelly". people tend to judge quickly because she's a celeb. we make mistakes, we should take a look at ourselves before we say a word a bout her. i'm sure she learned from it and it doesn't feel good when people judge you because you made mistakes just like humans do normally.

Hate the way she dresses.

Who cares, leave them alone. If there is anyone here that hasn't made a stupid mistake in their youth, please raise your hand. Yeah, no hands...thought so. The only difference here, is that hers was made public. I'm sure the media won't be happy until they put so much stress on them that they break, then they'll be there to take photos & write stupid articles for us to read, & yeah, I'll be reading them too.
