Giuliani calls for Obama to resign for 'incompetence' over Benghazi consulate attack and the economy

Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani has blasted President Obama for ‘incompetence’ over the attack on the U.S consulate in Benghazi.

Speaking in Ohio at a rally for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Giuliani said Obama should resign over his handling of the economy.

Giuliani told a 30,000-strong crowd at The Square at Union Centre, West Chester, that the Obama administration should be ‘ashamed of themselves’ for claiming that the latest job figures were a positive sign.

The figures, announced on Friday, showed that the unemployment rate had increased by a point to 7.9 per cent during October.

In an impassioned speech, Giuliani referred to a 2009 interview in which Obama vowed to turn the economy around in three years, otherwise he would be a ‘one-term proposition’.

He said: ‘He should resign. He told us he would resign if he did this poorly.

‘He lied. He has been a disaster. The worst president for our economy in our lifetime.

'He doesn't want a second term. He wants a second chance, because he screwed it up the first time.’

The majority of polls show President Obama holds a narrow lead in Ohio, a vital swing state, and across the nation.

But the margins in seven key swing states - including Obama’s lead in Ohio, and Romney’s leads in Florida and Virginia - are less than three per cent, or within the polls’ margins of error.

Guiliani, who failed to win the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, also slammed Democrats for making Romney's business experience with private equity firm Bain Capital a target on the campaign trail.

He said: ‘They tried to humiliate him because of that. You know something, if Governor Romney can have the success for America that he had for Bain Capital, thank God! Our people would be working again.'

The biggest applause during Giuliani's speech came when he argued that the attack on the Benghazi consulate would not have happened if Senator John McCain had won the 2008 election.

The biggest applause during Giuliani's speech came when he argued that the attack on the Benghazi consulate would not have happened if Senator John McCain had won the 2008 election.

The attack, which killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya, took place on September 11 this year.

He said: ‘You know that what happened in Libya is the result, at least, of incompetence.

‘Maybe if we had a president who was paying attention, we wouldn't be going through all this investigation of what's being covered up about Libya.'

Giuliani claimed the attack on the U.S consulate in Benghazi on September 11 this year would not have happened if Senator John McCain had beaten Obama to the White House in 2008

Giuliani ended with a plea to the Ohio audience to vote for Romney on Tuesday.

He said: ‘You know what stands in his way? You know what's going to stop him? Ohio! You're going to do it.'

Guiliani spoke at the rally along side 2008 presidential nominee Senator John McCain, Ohio Governor John Kasich, Ohio Senator Rob Portman and Speaker of the House John Boehner.

Prior to the speakers, thousands of Romney supporters jammed the area around the stage, chanting ‘four more days’ in reference to the time remaining on this presidential term for Obama.

Mr. noun, verb 9-11 Giuliana has a lot of nerve with that remark. Seems like it was a republican president who presided over the largest attack ever on US soil, plus attacks on embassies during hs reign, and he dares to complain about this president. Another example of the republican hate machine.

Democrats don't resign.

All the republicans saying Obama doesn't deserve a second term b/c of the terrorist attack in Benghazi.... why did you think Bush deserved a second term despite allowing a terrorist attack actually inside of America??? Either both are responsible for the terrorism that occurred on their watch, or neither is. I don't remember asking Bush to resign because he ignored warnings about a terrorist attack on American soil that ended up killing thousands of Americans inside of our own country. But now Obama must resign because four Americans were killed in Libya? Listen, I'm not excusing any of the deaths. Just pointing out that its a bit of a double standard right?

3 more days of Obama, not 4 more years. Obama has lied more, spent more, and had the highest total unemployment (15%), than any other modern president. A vote for Obama is a vote towards US bankruptcy. A vote for Romney, is a vote towards economic recovery.

We so agree with former Mayor Guilani that Obama must either resign, be impeached or voted out! He is the Failure In Chief. He is responsible for the death of 4 Americans and no media outlets ie. CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN or MSNBC is reporting the truth on Benghazi-Gate! Time for a REAL American Leader in our White House with a Mitt Romney victory. Obama has failed us both in Economy, Foreign Policy & his rhetoric on class warfare is disgusted. Obama has created more division instead of unity, this along with his DNC platform being WAR on Women, No GOD, Gay/Lesbian (Social Issues) is why he will LOSE! It's the economy stupid! Romney/Ryan all the way to the White House; I see a landslide VICTORY, bring back our Republic! :)

Four brave men died due to the government's incompetence. And now, Obama is trying to redeem himself 3 days before the election by pretending he cares about the ruined east coast. Whatever happened to the "this is a one term proposition" if he didn't accomplish what he said he would? It's time for a new change!
