British company takes on the American Humvee - and repurposes it as an electric mini vehicle for London's roads

If you fancy taking an off-roader through London, but you are sick of the congestion charges, this may be an answer.

For London-based car builder, Prindiville, has launched the UK’s first customised electric vehicle in the shape of a Humvee.

The company, which has licences to adapt the designs of many popular models into electric and hybrid cars, have created this Electric Hummer for daily city commuter transport - even if it's a vehicle you might normally take off-road.

The vehicles feature a two-speed transmission, and an in-built 72V drive system powered by a lithium-iron phosphate battery pack.

However, the vehicle only gets to 60 miles on a full charge - so a spare battery in the boot might be a required extra.

Truska Angel, the CEO of Prindiville Design, said: 'We are fully aware of our responsibility to offer motorists sustainable choices through the provision of exciting transport solutions in this evolving electric sector.

'The new model is clearly a step in the right direction and the beginning of an exciting journey which promotes individual styling preferences, fun, and an all-important sustainable lifestyle.

'This is clear evidence that greener choices do not have to compromise luxury and beautiful design.'

Added safety comes courtesy of lockable double-skinned driver and passenger doors, and injection moulded LED front headlamps and rear taillights to provide superior luminosity.

The car is initially available as a Limited Edition for £25,000, before a fuller production schedule in the future.

Prindiville points out the car is exempt from tax and congestion charges - if you wish to drive the off-roader in London

In the unlikely event the media and others manage to persuade everybody to buy an electric car then how will we generate enough electricity to charge them? As sure as eggs are eggs we will see the price of that same electricity which many people use to cook and heat their homes soar. Good for those with shares in the utility companies though.
