Desperate police hunt for disabled 16-year-old girl who went missing near her home

Police are searching for a missing 16-year-old girl they say is suffering from a cognitive impairment.

Makayla Rose Macedo was last seen on Wednesday in a residential neighborhood in Hope Mills, North Carolina, headed toward a busy road.

Police have issued a Silver Alert for the teen, which is an announcement specifically for an individual suffering from any sort of cognitive impairment - anywhere from dementia to autism.

A spokesperson for the Hope Mills Police Department told the MailOnline a missing persons report has been issued across the state, primarily through TV and local media.

 

The teen is described as 5' 2", 135 pounds with shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes. 

She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with a black design with black tights and black shoes, according to the announcement.
