The show must go on! Jessica Chastain arrives for another performance of The Heiress as Broadway bounces back after Hurricane Sandy

She made her Broadway debut just a day after lights went up in New York City theatres for the first time since Hurricane Sandy ravaged the East Coast.

But as the Big Apple continues to reel from the destruction of the Superstorm, Jessica Chastain - alongside Broadway's biggest stars - has epitomised the phrase 'the show must go on'.

The actress, currently starring in The Heiress, was pictured on Sunday making her way to the Walter Kerr Theatre.

The red-headed actress bundled up from the cool temperatures in a black peacoat draped over blue jeans.

In a city still wracked with power-outages and a subway system in restoration, she was prepared to weather the storm's aftermath in style, wearing a pair of waterproof booties.

The 35-year-old star appeared to be in a cheerful mood, waving to cameras and stopping to sign an autograph on her way into the theatre.

Jessica stars as Catherine Sloper, a dowdy and socially awkward heiress, in the revival of the 1947 play based on Henry James novel Washington Square.

The show has divided critics since its Thursday debut.

While Bloomberg News' Jeremy Gerard called her performance 'close to perfect', New York Times critic Ben Brantley wrote of her performance: 'I never felt the urgency of filial and romantic love festering into vengeful hatred, which should inform any production of The Heiress.'

The Heiress on Broadway is scheduled to run until February.

The lights meanwhile went up again on Broadway Wednesday for the first time since Hurricane Sandy made landfall last Monday evening.

Though some Broadway shows, including Disney's Mary Poppins and The Lion King remained dark Wednesday night, the curtain rose for many of the other 38 shows.

All Broadway shows were planned to be back on schedule on Thursday and some even managed to turn the mess into promotions.

The Performers was offering a Sandy Special of $29.50 for top tickets, while the Roundabout Theatre Company let patrons with MetroCards buy tickets for $20 to its Cyrano de Bergerac and The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

Jessica Chastain is quite a beautiful lady. Generally you either like red hair or you don't. - snedman , Baton Rouge, 05/11/2012 04:40 Sadly, a lot of men still don't. A guy I like won't date me because I'm a ''ginge''.......
