Tottenham are monitoring Andy Carroll’s form at West Ham as they consider strengthening their own attacking options.

The 23-year-old England striker is on loan from Liverpool with the option of a permanent £17million deal next summer.

However, Liverpool are open to offers as they look to finance further rebuilding in January.

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has Jermain Defoe and the unsettled Emmanuel Adebayor but is exploring options.

The Portuguese manager came in for fierce criticism from Spurs fans on Saturday when he swapped one striker for another with his side chasing the game.

As Defoe made his exit straight down the tunnel in the 57th-minute, boos rang out around White Hart Lane.

Summer signing Adebayor was returning to the squad after missing the past three games with illness and a back injury.

The Togolese striker has only played five times this season and is yet to start a match, with Villas-Boas preferring to play Defoe up front alone with three attacking midfielders behind him.

Frustrations: Spurs fans were unhappy when Emmanuel Adebayor replaced Jermain Defoe like-for-like with the team 1-0 down at home to Wigan

Later, Villas-Boas would not rule out playing Defoe and Adebayor up top together in future, saying: 'It's not impossible we will play with two strikers. We've seen that it can work.

'In the games when Adebayor was available he showed the quality striker that he is. We have him fit now and hopefully ready for the upcoming games.'

i am not 100% sure about the 3 club rule but facts are here that Andy Carroll has only played for 1 team this season and that was proof from the first game of the season . Played for West Ham and injured his thigh jumping for a header. so sell him Liverpool and let the football gods do their jobs to stop it not the fans

If you pay 15 mil for him Spurs, we'll give you Joe Cole for free!

are you crazy, you didnt want to pay £15m for Leandro Damião and instead would pay £17m for this useless player who be lucky to score from a spot kick. how many goals has he scored since leaving Newcastle, I would say less than the goal keeper. West Ham can keep him. I'm sure the Spurs youth team has better to offer.

Be better off going for The Beast Heskey.. He's more in-form than Carroll and Torres put together

why would AVB want to sign this sack of potatoes? only a few months ago he said that Carroll 'is certainly a player that we are not looking at'. I know Jermain Defoe is awful but signing Carroll is definitely not a way to go about improving things

This could be our chance to get a bit more firepower up front in January. A swap for Dempsey would be great business especially if we could squeeze a couple of million out of them aswell to spend on young prospects for the future. Clint would penetrate the flanks and play well off borini when he's back fit and gives us the option to rotate Suarez if he needs resting or gets injured. With the January transfer window being such an inflated market as we sadly know Rodgers should snap us up some FREE transfers and loan signings to see us through to the summer transfer window and hopefully a top ten finIsh.
