Feeling stripy! January Jones and baby Xander wear matching shirts as they head for lunch date

It's not just moms and daughters who can indulge in matching outfits.

January Jones and her son Xander wore matching stripy shirts as they headed out for lunch together in Pasadena.

The Mad Men star wore a red and white top, while choosing a blue and brown version for her 13-month-old youngster.

January teamed her shirt with a simple pair of trousers and a plain black handbag, while her son wore sandals and shorts in keeping with the sunny Californian day.

It appears Xander has inherited his mother's blonde hair and fair colouring. January is a single mother to Xander, having chosen to keep his father's identity private.

The actress is preparing for the launch of the sixth series of cult AMC series Mad Men which is set to premiere in Hawaii.

The 34-year-old continued to work on the show throughout her pregnancy, which was written into the plot as her character Betty suffering a weight problem.

Her character was transformed into 'Fat Betty' while she was pregnant in real life because she had already given birth in the show.

She told The Hollywood Reporter: 'I was in seven hours of prosthetics every morning, trying to rip off a fake chest piece so I could breastfeed.

'I didn't want to try and hide it. I thought it would become comical and weird. I also didn't want to have the character become pregnant because it just wouldn't make sense - she had just had one.

'And I thought it would be something fun, not realising it was going to be a pain... It was definitely difficult, but I love what [creator Matt Weiner] did with the character's story. Everyone likes a challenge.'

The X-Men star will hit the big screen again next year in the cowboy movie Sweetwater alongside Ed Harris and Jason Isaacs.

Set in 1886 in New Mexico, January plays a woman who risks everything to avenge the murder of her husband. 

Earlier this year, devoted mum January confided one of her secrets to attaining health and vitality – and it’s far from devouring the Italian cuisine as she did today. 

The star credited eating her own placenta - along with a healthy diet and vitamins - with helping her get back to work on her hit series in a matter of weeks.
