Tired of 12.10 already?

What's better than 12.10? Why, 12.11 of course!

Higher is always better, and we thought we'd work on inflating our version number a bit. That seems to be popular these days (and I'm sure we'll catch up soon enough at this rate).

So we decided to gather up a bunch of fixes that didn't quite make it into 12.10, and publish them now for testing.

Opera 12.10 RC1

,

Today Ruarí is locked in the testlab, so it's again me presenting a new snapshot. I hope you're not too tired of me wink

Today is a sunny day here in Oslo, and this snapshot is as perfect as it can be. Most notably, it resolves "^^ crash", yay! ^_^.

Please, before commenting on this post, ensure that your bug is really a regression since 12.02.

Almost RC

Ruarí wants to disappear from main page of desktopteam blog, so he asked me to make another blog post p

As usual, this build is a bit better then previous one: it fixes several regressions from previous snapshot (like "can't check email or updates") and introduces a proper fix to CORE-48780 NSL bug. We wanted to call it RC, but it still crashes when we try to type ^^ or similar...

Known issues
  • ^^ crash.
  • [OS X] No 64-bit build for this snapshot

Closing up on final

Since Opera's HQ is covered with snow it seemed about the right time to get rid of the black window bug DSK-375761. So now you can not only minimize Opera window, but also restore it back, yay! Also Ctrl+1 opens Speed Dial #1 instead of search panel, and Windows users can again type funny characters like ☺ just by holding alt and entering their number!

As title says, we're getting close to final, so if you see some serious issue which must be fixed before that — shout now or it won't be fixed until next release.

The build will start rolling out through auto-update within a few hours.

Known issues
  • DSK-376420 (Check for updates dialog cannot be opened)
  • [OS X] CSS transformed web fonts not displayed
  • [OS X] No 64-bit build for this snapshot

Prefetching DNS when hovering links

, ,

Speed is sexy, and today Opera just got sexier. flirt

When a user hovers links, they are likely to click them. To get the destination page to the user faster, Opera will now make DNS look-ups for the links when the user moves the mouse cursor ontop of the link. This will result in the destination page loading faster if the user decides to click on the link. Opera will not prefetch the destination resource/document, but only the domain name look-up.

DNS will only be resolved for HTTP links, and Opera will perform no more than five look-ups per second.

In addition there are a nice set of bug fixes included. So have a good testing weekend!

Known issues
  • DSK-375750 [Windows] Can't restore window if theme installed
  • DSK-375761 [Windows] Black window/UI not responding after minimizing and maximizing Opera
  • [OS X] No 64-bit build for this snapshot
