Since it's inception, Mega-City One has been host to every form of crime, from block wars to nuclear attack, and even the attempted genocide of the entire city at the hands of the Dark Judges. In all that time only one thing has been constant: the Judges. With the upcoming release of "Dredd 3D" this Friday, the 21st, it was about time for a top ten list counting down some of the most upstanding, and wretchedly vile Judges to ever grace the streets of the "Big Meg". Can you guess who'll be number one? Cause if you can't, then your guessing skills are seriously, seriously lacking.

This week’s comics are once again dominated by a slew of "Zero Month" issues out of DC Comics. The most anticipated? SWORD OF SORCERY #0, which brings writer Christy Marx into the DCU. Beyond raising the female writing ratio on DC books by 33% (don’t check our math on that), Marx is right in her wheelhouse with a new take on Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld. There’s also a Beowulf back-up by Tony Bedard, so yay, fantasy!

It’s week two of Zero Month, which means we officially don’t understand numbers anymore. But we do understand DC will probably dominate the market again, particularly with a strong slew of bat-books. That’s led by BATMAN #0, which will flash back to the time period around Batman: Year One, but also includes BATGIRL #0 and BATMAN AND ROBIN #0.

After a light couple of weeks, we’re finally getting a big Wednesday at the comic book store, led by potential juggernaut JUSTICE LEAGUE #12. That’s where Superman and Wonder Woman first start dating, Justice League of America gets teased, and the entire next year of Justice League. So, must buy status: engaged.

Also from DC Comics? FLASH ANNUAL #1, which brings together the Rogues, versus The Flash, versus Captain Cold; GREEN LANTERN ANNUAL #1, which launches the massive “Rise of the Third Army” event; and BEFORE WATCHMEN: MINUTEMEN #3, by the incredibly talented (and as we found out this past weekend, bluntly honest) Darwyn Cooke. Kevin Eastman may be best known for Teenage Mutant ninja Turtles, but he's been writing and drawing other comics for years. The latest, big news item just announced at IDW's panel at SDCC 2012? LOST ANGELES, a six issue mini-series developed with Simon Bisley about a post-apocalyptic LA:

MTV Geek: We’ve read the blurb, but what’s the idea of Lost Angeles - and where did it come from?

Kevin Eastman: It started several years ago, in a brain-storming session with me and Simon Bisley--massive sessions of sharing likes and inspirations, creative mind melts, and kicking around idea's of really cool stuff we LOVE to draw! I guess that was the start--but I think when I came up with the title, Lost Angeles, I thought; "Man, there is really something to dig into here..." and after a trademark search I saw it was free and clear and I grabbed it before someone else did! Over a year or so of discussion, we developed the story and concept, banged out a bunch of character designs and kind of set it aside a bit to do other stuff--and that is when I showed it to Joe--who promply fiddled about--and came back with some very cool suggestions. Joe and I beat out a treatment, a screenplay, and now I'll adapt that with Tom and Bobby into the series! Read More...

Let me tell you a little story about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. When these pizza loving dudes were first introduced, they were written by a guy named Peter Laird, and drawn by Kevin Eastman. Then, the two split, and Eastman left the sewers forever... Or so we thought. Cut to years later, and Eastman returned to TMNT, but on writing duties this time. Eastman did panel breakdowns for the issues, but no art from the Turtle's master... Until now. As revealed at IDW's SDCC 2012 panel, we can now EXCLUSIVELY reveal that with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Annual #1, Eastman will not only write, but also draw a full, extra-sized turtle story for the first time in decades: Read More...

There’s a lot riding on Doctor Who/Star Trek: The Next Generation – Assimilation 2 #1… At least there is for fans of both franchises, who have been secretly holding out hope that the two would cross over on TV probably since TV was first invented. Well, as of this Wednesday, the wait is over; and the good news is, while this first issue might not be totally worth the wait, it’s a good deal of fun, and has us jonesing for issue two.

We’re going to keep this relatively spoiler free, except for what news is already (pretty much) out there: the Borg and the Cyberman have somehow teamed up, and with the universe in peril, it’s up to TARDIS and the Enterprise to stop them. Sound like a blast, right? And when this book is going, it’s going full steam, from the reveal of the dastardly team-up, to the promise of the good guys getting together, too. Read More...
