thanks for responding. It's more about what is the right thing to do...it's a boutique in the neighborhood that we go to occasionally, so I will most likely see them again. Fwiw I thought the party was fine, not great but they did do some creative things...I think I may just go back and give them cash tomorrow...

Why the **** people tip is beyond my comprehension.
If you're at a restaurant/eating out and someone brings you your food and at the end of the meal you owe them $30, then why would you tip them $10 just for carrying a plate of food back and forth. At the end of the meal it makes no difference whatsoever if you give them that extra money.
A waiter will get at least minimum wage no matter what because even if their base rate is below minimum wage their employer has to by law make up the money. They do not deserve some stupidly high pay for their menial work. I do not have some high paying job, i am in full time education, if I am lucky enough to be able to eat out or order a takeaway then i most likely can not afford to give extra money away, what a stupid ****ing thing to do.
And why do idiot waiters expect 15-20% tip no matter how large the bill is? If I order food that costs $1000, why should a waiter expect $200 for the same amount of work as if I had ordered a $5 sandwich? It's carrying a plate of food ten feet to a table, a monkey can be trained to do it, and they do not deserve wages higher than people who were smart enough to graduate high school and not do some dumbass work.
Waiters are slaves. You make a living waiting on other people bringing them food and drink. Its been around for thousands of years except back then you were rewarded with your life and punished with lashes or death. Waiters are modern day servants.

You are insane. Do you really think anyone can live off of minimum wage? Tips are part of what they make. You can't just refuse to tip because you are cheap. If you don't wnat to tip, stay home!

Then restaurant owners should pay them a livable wage and not put it on the diners to pay for their college education and rent. It's not our fault you couldn't find a better job.

I agree that they should be paid a living wage. The problem is that there is a lot of pushback because people think the incentive to provide quality service would then disappear, and you'd end up with a lot of rude waiters. Either way--you, the diner--would be paying for it, though. You realize that, right? Instead of a tip, your food would cost more. I wish somebody had taken the trouble to pay for your college education.

Then you'd be bitching about how much it costs to eat out. Restaurant owners will factor overhead costs onto what they charge. Dumbass. This is what tourists don't consider when they all say how affordable it is here.

Service costs money. That you call it a "tip" colloquially doesn't mean it is not payment for the waiter's service. The only difference from other services is that you can decide how much you want to pay, above a certain minimum.

NP: Technically, employers are supposed to bump them up to minimum wage for any shift they don't break minimum wage including tips. I think in practice it doesn't happen a lot though. I agree that tipping isn't optional. Stay home if you don't like the system.

Everything in moderation. If you’re not getting enough fruit and veg otherwise, juice is certainly better than nothing, since it does contain many vitamins and nutrients. But if you have the choice, go for a piece of fruit and water.

Itd. My sister is a public school teacher and had to pass pretty rigorous tests to teach in a NYC public. The people that could not pass the tests all teach NYC privates. I know this is anecdotal, but 3 very unintelligent girls I know from high school (not in NYC) all taught at TTs in NYC.

It really depends on what the school is looking for. Applicants don't even draw a self-portrait at Spence, but CSH takes that very seriously according to PSD.

My kid drew a self portrait at all the schools--including Spence--when we applied.

Did you think she was going to be admitted based on her Picassoesque artistic ability? Relax.

You should have prepped her better. How do you expect her to know exactly what to do?

Well, don't worry too much, if she did well overall. They look an index of factors not just interview performance.

The schools tend to look for more detail BUT it won't keep your dd out if everything else if good. Maybe work with her a little.

op - how do you know? ERBs are good, we are a nice couple and I think we connected with the DOA, school report should be good but she is quiet and compliant so not likely to "stand out" in a group of 7!

Have you tried Frownies? Seriously. As low tech as they are, they really help. I found that I scowl when I sleep and they keep me from scowling.

Botox lasts 3 months if you're lucky. Do the math. It's an expensive addiction.

OR: I use the ones shaped like triangles. They really do work. It will be smooth as silk when you wake up. Now, if you scowl during your waking hours, they obviously aren't going to cure that, but I figure 8 hours of not scowling is better than nothing. I re-use mine. After the first time, I put a couple of drops of clear eyelash adhesive on the back and smear it around. That way, I get 2 uses out of them. They stick much better with the eyelash glue.

I would be totally offended if someone walked up to me and asked me who my doctor is. Because, well, I don't have a doctor! That's like someone asking you who did your nose job when you haven't had one!

If dont mean random people, but maybe friends. What attractive, well-heeled woman doesn't see a derm for something? If you ask in a flattering way people share all kinds of info.

Dr Romano on 7th Ave in Chelsea. Lotsa well-groomed gay guys go to him so you know he's good. It has made me look so much better-rested, and I only have to get it once a year - I'm 46. Totally worth it! It will boost your dating confidence.

I had one at 40. He was a "surprise" as I already had a 20 year old and a 7 year old, but it's all good. There are things that I am better at and conversely worse at as I have aged, so while one kid didn't get the same mom as one of my other kids, it all balances out.

I live in Brooklyn but am very familiar with both areas and it does not sound like it would be a headache. Need to take 2 bridges. High volume traffic.

oh, if you have to take the Cross Bronx you're effed. Potential disaster if you are commuting during baseball season and Yankees are in town.
