Who needs a private jet! Katie Holmes makes her daily subway commute with a handsome companion in tow

Just a few short months ago she was being whisked around the world via private helicopters and jets,alongside her movie star husband Tom Cruise and their six-year-old daughter Suri.

But Katie Holmes has certainly come back down to earth since divorcing the actor in July.

On Wednesday the actress was seen looking just like everyone else as she caught the subway in New York City.

While she has done this a couple of times in the past few weeks, this time there was a noticeable difference - Katie was joined by a new male pal.

The 33-year-old smiled and laughed as she made her way to the platform alongside the tall, dark and handsome man.

The former Dawson's Creek star went casual and cosy for the outing, wearing an oversized knitted sweater over indigo skinny jeans which were tucked into black suede ankle boots.

The brunette star pulled her hands inside the sleeves of the attire as she briskly walked through the chilly subway station.

The gentleman in question looked stylish in his own jeans, a black top and padded parka, featuring a fur-trim hood.

The pair could not stop chatting away as they made their commute into the city.

It is unknown where they were going, but quite possibly to rehearsals of Katie's new Broadway play Dead Accounts.

Katie portrays a lapsed Catholic named Lorna taking care of her ailing parents in the black comedy, which is currently in previews with an opening date of November 28.

Her performance has already drawn a standing ovation – especially when a telephone being used in one scene broke, and she deftly fixed it without skipping a beat.

'I have a hard time sleeping because I think about how serious this all is,' Katie told the New York Times of her role.

'I think about the cost of tickets. I think to myself: "You better do a good job. People are paying a lot of money." You want to know your stuff.'

The Batman Begins star even shares a steamy kiss with her co-star Josh Hamilton in the comedy, which also features funny woman Judy Greer, Jayne Houdyshell, and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz.

It charts the story of a family and its prodigal son, who returns unexpectedly from New York to his hometown of Cincinnati from New York.

The last time Katie was on Broadway was back in 2008, making her debut in a revival of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons.

The actress-turned-fashion designer will next appear alongside Jean Reno, Allison Janney, and William Hurt in a yet-to-be-titled Christian Camargo drama, which is a modern retelling of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull.

She'll also star opposite Gossip Girl hunk Chace Crawford in the romantic comedy Responsible Adults, about a man who realizes that his crush was his babysitter 15 years ago.

Meanwhile, Katie's ex-husband, 50, has reportedly been so busy filming the sci-fi action film, All You Need is Kill, in London he hasn't seen his daughter in about four months.

Overrated in looks and talent. She has neither. It's obvious from the pictures. She's only in her 30s and already saggy and wrinkled skin. Yuk

he,s gorgeous i wish he was looking at me the way he,s looking at her, as for katie leave her alone the girls just trying to get on with her life, people were ripping her apart when she was with tom saying she was a stepford wife etc, and they,re still moaning now about something as silly as her dress sense, seriously people need to get a grip and get a life.
