Her mother Donna Hatounian has revealed in an interview with National Enquirer, that although Brooke is putting on a brave face, there is an element of 'Why me?' to her attitude.

Sadly, as Brooke has discovered cancer doesn't discriminate. It kills the most powerful, rich and healthy of individuals i.e. Steve Jobs, or the homeless bum that has nothing to live for. Hopefully her positive attitude will help her since cancer is basically your body turning on itself for some reason i.e. and giving up on life.

Some comments here are simply unfounded. Removing sugar from the diet and taking lots of vitamin C will NOT prevent cancer! If that's all it took, wouldn't that be nice? ...even devoting your life to fitness and health does not prevent cancer - sorry. For instance, there are people who have NEVER SMOKED A SINGLE CIGARETTE who get lung cancer. All we can say is there is much we do not know about cancers....and pray for those who have it, to recover.

What a load of rubbish webcat in regards to your comments on sugar. I have taken the following off a breast cancer website verbatim - It's OK to eat some natural sugars on a daily basis. Sugar in your diet does not cause cancer to develop. Starving all of your cells of sugar won't kill or prevent cancer, but it will deprive your healthy cells of a necessary source of energy. Keeping a balance of nutritious foods and a regular exercise routine can give you a healthy body weight and normal insulin levels. That's the sweet way to reduce your cancer risk.

As Brooke herself says, this is usually a very manageable cancer, it can be completely curable and hopefully her prognosis is good. Clare Balding doing well after a couple of years, wishing Brooke all the very best.

Make sure that every trace of every type of sugar is gone from your diet, take a high dose of good quality Vitamin C. When you get cancer its because the immune system is compromised so it needs to be boosted and kept boosted to keep the illness from returning. Best of luck, best wishes!

My thoughts go out to Brooke, David and their kids and family. Cancer is a horrible (but thankfully nowadays) usually completely treatable and curable disease but it must be the most frightening diagnosis to hear from a doctor. My younger brother who's 26 has recently been diagnosed with testicular cancer and thankfully is almost cured after one operation and now a second today which should prevent any future relapse. It's interesting to note, that, like Brooke Burke, even people who eat healthily, don't smoke, don't drink, exercise and live as naturally as possible still get cancer - This leads me to suspect that cancers with no obvious cause (unlike lung cancer from smoking etc) must be due to genetic factors that cause DNA damage of cells or some other cause over which we have no control. The worst thing about cancer that I can see is the treatment (i.e Highly toxic chemotherapy) but I hope this will soon be a thing of the past with new breakthroughs in treatment.

So devastating when anyone gets cancer, but when they have devoted their life to health and fitness, it seems that extra bit unfair, as they have done everything they can to be well... :( Get well soon.
