Eva Longoria trades her luscious long locks for a pixie cut (but relax, it's only a wig)

Eva Longoria has quite a hair-raising sense of humour.

The former Desperate Housewives star is famous for her silky long hair but was wondering how her fans would react if she chopped off her luxurious tresses.

So Eva and her star hairstylist, Ken Paves, dressed her up in a short, spiky black wig, had a photo taken and posted it on Eva's WhoSay page on Tuesday.

'You guys like the new hairdo?' Eva wrote in a teasing note.

The faux hairdo - which strangely resembles Keeping Up With the Kardashians matriarch Kris Jenner on a windy day - was only meant in jest.

Dressed in a figure-hugging brown dress and holding a small coffee, the wigged out Eva is wearing an exaggerated expression of surprise in the picture.

Paves, meanwhile, is standing next to her, finger pointing at that edgy hair with his face showing his version of shock - or is it mortification.

The hairstylist linked to his Twitter page with a picture of the floor covered with hair clippings along with the message: 'On set with @EvaLongoria !!!! Ooops!!!'

If Eva's purpose was to send shock waves through cyberspace, she got it. Some of her friends reacted with sarcasm while others were sad.

One pal wrote: 'Yeah,Really nice! But then again you'd look stunning with a skinhead.. lol.'

'I'm kidding!' Eva admitted that her WhoSay picture was just a prank. In reality, Eva - pictured here campaigning for Barack Obama in Las Vegas earlier this month - would probably never cut her hair that short

'Nooo! Eva . . . i LOVED your long hair!' another responded. 'I guess I'll TRY to get used to your new do.'

A third expressed: 'Hello beautiful Eva, you're still a very beautiful lady, I like you with long hair much better. Love you anyway, Kisses.'

'Ok I'm kidding, it's a wig,' Eva admitted, adding that it was 'a @kenpaves hair piece! cool huh?'
