Sir Alex Ferguson has instructed his scouting team to up their efforts in South America and Mexico as the Manchester United boss looks to beat his European rivals to the planet's brightest young talent.

The Scot has been in the United States during the international break, and while he has enjoyed some well-earned time off, he has revealed he's keeping tabs on the seven staff he has stationed in around the region.

United have delved into the South American market almost every year since the arrival of the Da Silva brothers - Rafael and Fabio - in 2008, largely experiencing success.

Angelo Henriquez was signed for 4million this summer from Universidad Chile, following in the footsteps of Javier Hernandez who was signed for a similarly lowly fee in 2011.

And now Fergson says he hopes to unearth a few more gems in the coming years to avoid having to pay considerably more for players once they've developed at other European clubs.

'Our scouting there has increased,' he told Inside United. 'We've got an operative in Mexico, two in Brazil and four South American scouts now.

'Quite frankly, they do produce. The South Americans love playing football, it’s just in their blood. The three Brazilians - Anderson, Rafael and Fabio - love it and are first to training every morning. It’s a breath of fresh air.

'Antonio Valencia is as tough as nails with great discipline about him. Chicharito has a fantastic attitude to playing and everything else. It’s really good. We’ve done very well in Central and South America in the last two or three years.'

United first moved to tie up good links with the region in 2011 when they secured a partnership with Sao Paulo academy Desportivo Brasil.

The likes of Gladstony, Aguilar, Lucas Evangelista, Agnaldo, and Rafael Leao have all been invited at some point to visit the club, and in some cases train.

This increase of a presence also comes off the back of a frustrating summer for Ferguson who missed out on the highly-rated teenager Lucas Moura who was eventually signed by Paris St Germain for 35million.

How about taking a Look at Michael Orozco Fiscal at San Luis in the Mexican Liga? He is a US International and scored the recent winning goal against Mexico in an international friendly. He is a quick, excellent defender and shows well for his club in a difficult league. With their problems with injuries, maybe SAF should look at someone who is evidently healthy?

Ruby Tuesday. Your reply was fairly articulate and fairly well written so i'll refrain from insults and i'll attempt to make this as clear as possible. 1. I do not hate City ( i hate Leeds and Liverpool but not City). 2. I do not come from Cambridge ( i live in Cambridge due to my business but my family are originally from Sale). 3. You HAVE lied - i did not write what you have claimed GO AND CHECK. 4. As i previously wrote, why is it that you are the ONLY City fan who has misunderstood this message? I have several family members who are City fans and when i was younger i would occasionally go to Maine Rd with them so to say i hate them is ridiculous - i just like winding up their "new fans".

King Eric cambs,No mistake my friend you know what you said?and just the type of childish remark I half expected from a immature nasty little boy like yourself at the end of your post,by the very nature of the majority of your rants on here and your hatred of mcfc I am pretty certain who the majority of people on here will believe on this matter it is you sir who is being economical with the truth, and for your information I do not and would not lie on such a serious matter as this one, your childish attempt to smear city fans failed miserably simply because the real united fans who live locally had nothing but praise for all the blues who were in the ground that day including myself but you being from cambridge would not understand that would you instead you chose to make something up in an attempt to stir more bad feeling amongst both sets of fans, what you said was not only disgusting it was immature and very irresponsible.

Ruby Tuesday, i can understand you making a mistake, you are after all a bitter blue but what you have written below is an outright LIE. I have absolutely no problem in accusing any Bitter of a lack of class so i have no reason to deny these remarks if i had made them. p.s, theres no way that you are female, have you looked in the mirror lately?

Ruby Tuesday, i also notice that you're the only Bitter who has misunderstood my comment. What does that tell you? Perhaps your fellow 14 per centers have at least learnt to read? Little boy

Ruby Tuesday, go back to what was said and turn on your excuse for a brain. If i felt City showed no class at the 50th i would have no problem in repeating it. I was there with a City supporting cousin and we both agreed it was treeted with the utmost respect. (apart from one ridiculous excuse of a bitter who shouted out "come on city" a moment before the whistle). Judging by your brain power i am sure you are "a little boy" KNOW WHAT I MEAN?

If they really prove themselves at Man Utd., then it is likely that they will eventually move to Real Madrid or Barcelona. Why?.. Well, probably because it is in their blood. And how can Man Utd. stop them from leaving?.. Perhaps they need to become like PSG.

King Eric cambs, well well it's the guy who denied accusing city fans of failing to respect the minutes silence in 2008 for the victims of the terrible tragedy at munich, you know what you said my friend, you accused city fans of having no class and stated they could not even stay silent during that tribute, when in fact there behaviour and the behaviour of united fans also was impeccable, the fact is you tripped yourself up on the phil jones injury story by stating you would not stoop so low as to ridicule a young player with injury problems, you now have the nerve to deny what you said in order to try and gain some respect back on here,oh and I can assure you I am certainly not a little boy if you know what I mean.

It's all he can do, considering United is billions in debt.
