Talk about jumping on the bandwagon! Ohio marching band joins the Gangnam craze in hilarious dance video as they stop, drop and roll to the beat

This is the moment a group of university musicians proved there's fun to be had at band camp.

Members of Ohio University Marching 110 are the latest to shoot a Gangnam-style video of themselves prancing around mimicking Korean rapper Psy.

Performing ahead of a football game against Norfolk State on Saturday, the 200-strong self-dubbed 'most exciting band in the land' began their performance like any other, bopping happily to the beat of the music.

Who would have guessed it? The performance starts out conservatively enough

After around a minute and a half the band suddenly launch themselves to the ground Mexican-wave style, bouncing back up again and showing off their practiced dance moves.

They strut their stuff on the pitch in a carefully choreographed routine, parodying the summer's surprise internet sensation.

Skipping on the spot, their instruments abandoned on the grass beside them, the band members kick off their display with a Macarena-type sequence of movements.

Swinging their hips they punch the air, hug their waists and shuffle animatedly from side to side.

Only a small gaggle continue to play the music as their peers pulse from foot to foot, circling one arm above their heads rodeo-style.

With militaristic precision they groove to the beat of the drums, remaining in their ranks as they execute their moves.

They dive to the floor, rolling around, waving instruments in the air.

Straddling one another they thrust their hips energetically, seemingly not held back by their stiff uniforms.

At one point they pause, mid-lunge, chin resting on fist, staring into the crowd which responds with cheers and applause.

They wait, frozen, as they get their breath back before launching into phase two of the hilarious dancing, belting out a chant as they do.

Their jiving lasts a total of three and a half minutes, finishing with them marching up to one of the stands, the crowd demonstrating their deafening appreciation.

It is not the first time Ohio Marching 110 has found internet fame. In October the group played LMFAO's Party Rock Anthum during a halftime performance at a game against Kent State.

Without getting quite so jiggy-with-it as in the Gangnam video, the crew's rendition was still animated and entertaining.

Their efforts have been commended with a staggering 8 million YouTube hits to date and this latest one already has almost 8,000.

This is my alma mater!! I was actually one of the mascots at OU during my time there and my fondest memories I will keep with me forever are tailgaiting football games and getting to see the 110 rock out! Now living in the UK, I miss not being close enough to nip down to Athens from Columbus for a Saturday game. The 110 are truly remarkable and anyone who says otherwise knows nothing about them. They have been doing this for the longest time and doing popular songs combined with dancing is their thing. It's part of what makes them so fantastic and why people love to come and watch them. Luckily the football team isn't too shabby lately either so it's win, win! HI-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Great band, loved the performance, but it looks like they are performing in a high school stadium. The stadium my high school played in was the same size or bigger. I guess football isn't as big up there as it is in the South.

Dear holy god, would all of you clones, deprived of any sense of individuality, please start finding satiating your desperate need for human connectivity with something that at least, to some minimally degree, includes intelligence and dignity. PLEASE!!!!!

The most exciting Band in the Land! I marched at OU for two years in 88 and 89. The band has been performing like that since well before my time.

Jay Bee, Alba - Lots of us don't think it's nonsense and not all of us are interested in UK news only. I think it's interesting to find out what goes on in other parts of the world and I think this particular article is great. Made me smile.

The 110 will be in Dublin, Ireland, for St. Patrick's Day in 2013. As for the sound you hear, that's the recording instrument, not the sound you hear when it's live, which is awesome. The amount of practice time these kids put in is amazing. Full disclosure-I was in the 110 back in the 70's.
