Where's all your muscle gone? Matthew McConaughey's sinewy arms shock on set

He said he can't wait to get his lips round a burger but soon Matthew McConaughey may not be able to lift it as his arms get thinner and thinner.

The 43-year-old looked weak as he caught a break from playing real-life AIDS-afflicted character of Ron Woodroof in The Dallas Buyers Club.

Although his pregnant wife Camila Alves has a constant presence onset the 6ft actor looked frail without his other-half as he walked into his trailer clutching a cup of iced tea.

With still a couple of months to go, Camila is only going to get bigger unlike her husband - the pair married in June - who has been shrinking away.

In a new interview the 6ft-tall actor reveals he now weighs in at 143lbs - having lost 38lbs over the past few months (more than the 30lbs previously reported).

The 43-year-old's character Ron Woodruff smuggled life saving medicine into the United States, despite being very ill.

The star is sticking to a drastic regime of cardio, five ounces of protein a day and low carbohydrates to maintain his emaciated form.

'The organs shrink, so my stomach has shrunk as well,' Matthew told Hotfix.com recently.

'So as much as I can't wait to have that cheeseburger, on the day, it'll be damn hard to eat the whole thing.'

To Alan in LA: speak for yourself. Many people see Matt for the first time this way and are shocked. DM is reliable, common sense, and journalistically fair. What humor did you find in the Halle Berry story, or the article on Marc Anthony in the Dominican? There are dozens of heart wrenching, uplifting, and informative articles each day.

Why is it a shock? We've been getting reports for weeks on his weight loss and I'm sure the crew are more aware than us. The DM is a really dumbed down site..I come here to laugh.

He is only "dedicated to his craft" because he has no acting and therefore nothing to carry his roles on, apart from overly-cheesy American manners, which some still find attractive and to follow, so at least one way he can try to win - on "dedication" (i.e. loosing weight).

We get it, he's lost weight. But he's not nearly as shocking as you make out. His arms aren't really that thin at all, he still has quite a bit of muscle tone so he's still healthy. - A person, here, Ireland, 22/11/2012 18:05 Actually you are wrong in saying he is healthy, such low body fat is incredibly unhealthy. Body fat is the key here. People criticize models for being to skinny when they have a higher body fat percentage than this man.
