PRE-FELTED GAUGE
In st st: 12 sts & 16 rows = 4"/10 cm

GAUGE AFTER FELTING
16 sts & 29 rows = 4”/10 cm

SPECIAL TECHNIQUE: FELTING
After knitting purse, completely assemble it with the exception of attaching the handles. Put the purse into the net bag. Put the purse and jeans into the washer and fill the washer tub with hot water (as hot as your washer allows) to a level that covers the purse by approx. 6”. Add a capful of the liquid soap. Agitate for 6 minutes. (Note that many washer cycles are just 2 minutes, so stop the washer after each cycle and re-start until 6 minutes of total agitation have elapsed.) Check the felting status of the purse. Depending on your washer, to felt the purse to the desired amount, it should take between 6 and 8 minutes of agitation. When you are pleased with the amount of felting, remove the purse and let the water drain and fill to the same water level with cold rinse water. Put the purse (in the zip bag) back into the washer and agitate for another minute. The cold water will make the purse felt just a bit more. Let the water drain and let the spin cycle run for about 30 seconds. Remove the purse. You can now slightly
stretch it into shape. Stuff with plastic bags so the purse will retain it’s shape while drying. Lay flat to
dry.
