He's been sporting his trademark quiff since shooting to fame playing Edward Cullen in Twilight back in 2008.

But it would seem Robert Pattinson had opted for a bold new style as he stepped out in New York City on Wednesday evening.

The 26-year-old actor covered up his dark 'do with a black woolly hat - but as the accessory slipped up, the size of his head gave away the tell-tale signs of a buzz cut.

With his long locks nowhere to be seen, it would seem the British star was hiding his drastic new cut under his hat.

The Remember Me actor was spotted leaving West Village eatery Waverly Inn with a group of pals, and seemed to have opted for a quirky ensemble to accompany his seemingly new hairstyle.

Robert was sporting an unusual red and black leather-detail bomber jacket which featured the MTV logo.

Teaming the garment with a grey hooded jumper, black skinny jeans and simple trainers, the star certainly seemed to have embraced the Big Apple's hipster scene.

Notably absent from the actor's trip to New York was girlfriend Kristen Stewart.

The 22-year-old actress is currently in Los Angeles after finishing her promotional stint for latest movie, On The Road, last week.

But it's no surprise the Twilight beauty seems to be laying low of late, after recently admitting the furore surrounding her affair with married director Rupert Sanders earlier this year made her want to lock herself away in a hotel room.

The Sun newspaper quoted her as saying: 'You have to be OK with your own fears. If you’re an honest person you’ll make mistakes, but that’s when the most interesting things happen.'

'I used to just stay in my hotel room rather than deal with everything, but if you get too caught up in what others think you become a really disjointed person.'

Kristen and Robert split for three months earlier this year after pictures emerged of the actress kissing her Snow White and the Huntsman director Sanders.

But they have since rekindled their love and have been spotted together gracing the red carpet for the latest Twilight premiere.

He's supposedly shooting a cologne commercial in New York. Apparently, that's his manager and his body guard and he's looking pretty clean cut, at least according to a US gossip site and some of his uber fans that comment on it. As far as the KStew thing, couple of US journalists (and not the tabloid ones) wrote about him being at one of her film's after party a week or so ago. Plus, they've been photographed together after they were done with the Twilight thing. Frankly, I think there relationship is a bit odd (before the scandal, they never seemed to spend any time together) but whatever the relationship consists of they have cleared worked it out for the meantime.

'Robsten' is a PR tool to get non fans to go see the Twilight movies. Think about it, these Twilight movies wouldn't have made this much money if they didn't have 'robsten'. And now a tell-all book will be written about this exeperience. I will not be surprised to find out that Rob and Kristen helped Summit exes come up with what has happened over the years. I always knew this wouldn't end well.
