Where did it all go wrong? X Factor's biggest export Leona Lewis fails to break into the top 200 with her latest single Lovebird
|
She was once dubbed The X Factor's biggest success story.
But it seems that superstar Leona Lewis' halo might be starting to slip as her new single Lovebird failed to make it into the Top 200 when it was released this week.
The poor sales for the second single taken from Glassheart come after it became her first album not to debut at No 1 when it was released two months ago.
Poor chart position: Leona Lewis' new single Lovebird has failed to make it into the Top 200
The 27-year-old singer, who became the first British X Factor winner to break America, is still managed by Sony and Simon Cowell, but has become overshadowed by other show successes including One Direction and Little Mix.
'The single was strong and should have done better but, unfortunately, there was no real marketing force behind it,' a source told The Daily Mirror.
'Crucially, it didn’t capture the imagination of radio bosses and got little airplay. Most people, unless they have the album, have never heard the song,' they added.

New video: Leona pulled out all the stops for her new video, but it still failed to bring in sales
While it is unknown exactly how many copies of the single have been sold, the 200th single on the chart has sold just 600 copies, meaning that Leona's has sold less.
Trouble feat Childish Gambino, the heavily promoted first single from her new album, did much better, making it into the Top 10 and peaking at No 7.
'It’s a little embarrassing for the label because they have invested so heavily in Leona. Having said that, the album did really well and the main thing for Leona is that she’s really proud of all the tracks. There are no fillers,' continued the source.
Caged: Studio bosses are reportedly disappointed with the track's poor performance
Lovebird is written by Bonnie McKee, who has famously worked with Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Taio Cruz, Rita Ora, Joshua Coleman and Lukasz Gottwald.
The video for the new track features Leona posing in a cage, wearing a series of floaty, ethereal outfits.
The Hackney-born star's poor chart position comes two years after plans for her US tour fell through, calling into question her future with Cowell and the record label.
Falling sales: Leona's third studio album peaked at No 3 in the charts, her first album not to debut at No 1
