- The Paper Kites gave us their new Jefferton James co-directed video for “A Maker Of My Own Time”, the first single off their upcoming EP Young North. Details here

- Melbournites The Stillsons are taking the unusual step of recording their next album in Brisbane – the reason being that it will provide “No Distractions”. On their way up the coast the band will be stopping off in a number of places as part of their Spring tour. Details here

- Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson are revealing a track a day in the lead up to the release of their new album Wreck and Ruin and as of today we’re seven songs in. Details here

- The one man blues machine that is Claude Hay has just released his new single “I Love Hate You” and is giving it away for free. Details here

- TinPan Orange have announced a national tour kicking off this September to launch their upcoming album Over The Sun. Details here

- Canberra based indie folkers Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens will be officially releasing their debut album Family Pets later this year and they’re offering up the first single, “Little Surprises”, as a free download. Details here

- Husky have been touring through the US and Europe but are heading home this October for a headline tour to launch their new single “Tidal Wave”. Details here

- Canadian five-piece The Wooden Sky are offering their new single “Take Me Out” as a free download ahead of their new album Every Child a Daughter, Every Moon a Sun. Details here

- The second Key of Sea album will hit stores on the 19th October featuring tracks from Jinja Safari, Paul Kelly, The Tiger and Me, Lanie Lane and many more. Details here

- Regular Sydney night Upstairs and Underground are showcasing some of the city’s best progressive folk at The Gaelic Club tomorrow night. The lineup includes Bears With Guns, Liam Gale and the Ponytails, Edema Ruh and The Oliver Thorpe Quintet. Details here

- Angus Stone, in partnership with Guinness Australia, has recorded versions of “The Blowers Daughter” by Damien Rice and “Dreams” by The Cranberries to be debuted on Guinness’ facebook page next Monday 3rd September. Fans will get a chance to choose which track is their favourite and the winner will be available on iTunes on the 28th September with all proceeds going to SurfAid International. Details here

- Trevor Dann has racked up his 50th podcast with Propermusic.com and it’s a killer – an hour of some of the best live music recorded by Dann and the team. If you don’t listen to the Propercast we reckon this is the perfect jumping on point. Details here

- After some recent lineup changes Adelaide folk artists Traveller & Fortune have decided to rerelease their single “Little Plastic People” and will be touring it in September. Details here

- Blues-folk duo Hat Fitz and Cara Robinson are currently wrapping up a massive US and European tour and have just announced a bunch of Australian dates in October. Details here

- Sarah Humphreys has announced the details of her brand new album Hello. To celebrate the release Humphreys has a spring tour planned through NSW, VIC and SA. Details here

- Two of UK indie-folk’s biggest buzz bands – The Staves and Keaton Henson – have teamed up to rerecord “Icarus” originally from The Staves’ EP Mexico. The result is a nice little video and the track can be downloaded for free. Details here

- Martha Tilston truly was a “find” at the National Folk Festival a couple of years ago so we’re pretty stoked to learn she has a new album on the way this October. Details here

- Michael Kiwanuka just keeps getting better and better this week releasing his brand new video “Bones”. Details here

- Communion Melbourne have announced possibly the best lineup yet for their September show – Battleships, Ainslie Wills, Packwood, Hayden Calnin and Grizzly Jim Lawrie. It’s all happening at the Toff in Town on the 23rd September. Details here

- The Trouble With Templeton have gone through a lot of changes lately and have morphed from a solo project to a duo, trio and now a five piece. Their new song “Six Months In A Cast” is a great example of their new sound. Details here

“I can’t get enough of collaborating with people … In Sydney there’s a real community of singer-songwriters at the moment who are willing to get together and jam out on a few songs. Which makes the whole experience really refreshing especially when you get caught up in trying to write songs by yourself. “Nancy Spain” – Christy Moore

So much of my early folk music education centres around my Dad’s obsession with Christy Moore. This song in particular was a favourite in our house and if you’re a fan of Irish contemporary folk music it doesn’t get much better than this.
