Raise a glass: How to perk up Prosecco
|
Prosecco, that affordable pear-flavoured fizz, is a Christmas perennial — but if you want to turn it into something special, just add a splash of liqueur and a handful of ice.
Take Aldi’s cut-price Prosecco Valdobbiadene Superiore Extra Dry NV (£6.99).
Add a tablespoon of Lyme Bay’s Blackcurrant Rum Liqueur (£9.99, Lyme Bay Winery) and a couple of blackcurrants to a glass, and you’ve got a modern version of Kir Royale.
Prosecco: More than just a cheap alternative to champagne, it tastes wonderful as part of a Kir Royal (right)
For a drier drink, how about a Martini Royale? Add a shot of Martini Bianco (£8, Tesco) to Martini Prosecco (£7, Ocado).
Throw in some ice, fresh mint and a quarter of a lime.
If you fancy a more seasonal cocktail, try Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference Prosecco Conegliano 2011 (£10.99) with a tablespoon of The King’s Ginger Liqueur (£19.49, The Whisky Exchange).
For a bit of glamour, lightly grate some nutmeg across the top and wedge a little chunk of stem ginger on the rim of the glass.
On a freezing day, add rich, nutty Vestal Amber Elderberry Flower Liqueur (right, £26.68, Master of Malt) to prosecco.
It’s got a real tang, so add it slowly until you’ve got the right balance.
