WHAT'S A WE'RE ABOUT 9?

We’re About 9 brings complex vocal harmonies and unique, poignant songs to an upbeat, fun show. You may have seen them on the main stage of a folk festival (Falcon Ridge, Kerrville, Clearwater), played the 60-second movie synopsis game, stayed awake on a plane, made it to Albany, sang all of the body parts you could spell with three letters, or concatenated with We’re About 9.

WHERE DID THAT NAME COME FROM?

We made up the name “We’re About 9” while we were signing up for an open mic over a decade ago. We had no idea it would stick, and certainly didn’t expect that we’d still be going by this name or even playing music all these years later. But music still makes us feel like nine-year-olds, digging into the fresh discoveries of the world, making light of everything, and asking questions relentlessly.

If you’re interested in booking We’re About 9, you may want to check out our Kit and our Contact page. Want to try out a concert in your own house? Get in touch, and we’ll talk through the logistics. Want to book us at your gigantic stadium? We’re probably not ready for that, and we’ll gladly tell you so and see if we can work out something mutually beneficial. Our best draw is in MD (Baltimore/DC/Annapolis), MA (Cambridge/Boston), NY (Brooklyn/Manhattan), and Northern VA (Alexandria). But we’ve also had extremely successful shows in FL, OH, and NM. Broadly speaking, we’ve had success in Folk Festival, Folk Club, Coffeehouse, House Concerts and other listening room settings.

TRIO? DUO?

Correct. We play in both formats. The trio plays mostly between Northern VA and NYC. The duo frequents the New England area. And there are a great number of exceptions to both of those rules. You can learn more about the duo and trio at our kit page.
