My SQL Cluster- Where, When, and How to Use MySQL Cluster

When: Wednesday, April 25, 2012
Where: 625 2nd Street, San Francisco, CA- 4th Floor
Join the Meet-Up to attend: http://www.sfmysql.org/events/38578882/

Overview:
MySQL® Cluster is a separate product from the standard MySQL database, despite their being tightly linked. Due to the distributed nature of MySQL Cluster, it has a far more complicated architecture than a standard MySQL database. In this presentation, Max Mether, SkySQL’s Training Services Manager, will describe the architecture of the MySQL Cluster product and how the process and data flow takes place between the nodes of the cluster. Max will help you understand when to consider MySQL Cluster, and to see the warning signs of when MySQL Cluster is not going to be a fit.

Attendees will have the opportunity to win a Parrot AR. Drone Quadricopter – a ground breaking remote-controlled helicopter that brings together modeling, video gaming and augmented reality.

Bio:
Max Mether, a native of Finland received his M.Sc (Eng) in Physics and Maths from Helsinki University of Technology. Max joined MySQL in 2001 starting as a Consultant and an Instructor, where he ended up creating the MySQL training program and managing the curriculum under MySQL Ab and later at Sun. Max now manages the training department at SkySQL and helps advance the MySQL eco-system around the world.

Open Data and OpenPhoto Project

Thursday: March 8th, 2012
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: IGN Headquarters
625 2nd Street, 4th Floor
San Francisco, CA 94107
Overview:
All of us have content on various services and over time we stop using some of these. But what happens to our data? Often times we don’t want to leave our data behind, rather we want to use another service. What does this mean 10 or 20 years into the future? More importantly, what if we could separate the data we input from the app we input it to? Making a user’s data portable opens up new world of possibilities for the apps of tomorrow.

We’re solving this problem specifically for photos by building an open source photo platform that lets users select where their photos and associated metadata is stored. Users grant the OpenPhoto software access to their data, not the other way around.

There are a handful of projects working together to solve this problem not just for photos but for all of the content we put online. You can find more about The OpenPhoto Project at http://theopenphotoproject.org.
