Unfortunately subtitles created within MC, using the SubCap Generator, cannot be easily imported into AvidDVD.

If you want to work with subtitles in one or more languages and give the viewer the possibility of choosing which they want to have on-screen, Avid DVD offers a better solution.

These 3 tutorials will hopefully give you a little insight into how AvidDVD deals with subtitles.

Thanks for this great tutorial. Quick question - I'm in the middle of creating a timecoded dialogue list for the subtitles and just realized that the main project is 1080p 23.976 but it will be going out to both DVD and Blu-ray. How is this handled as DVD is typically 29.97, correct? How do I import my 24 frame timecoded subtitles into the Avid DVD project?

My quick answer is - I don't know.

I never have had to work with subtitles on a 1080p project. So I have no idea.
I suggest you try with a short sequence and a few subtitles and see how the timing comes out.

It may be possible to do something in Aegisub - when you export subtitles from it there is a framerate choice.

Aegisub is a 3rd party application I discovered a few months ago. I mention it in this tutorial on the BorisFX homepage. It might be worth your while to investigate it.

Thanks for the quick response. Much appreciated. I'll check out the app. I just hope I don't have to go through the first 20 minute chunk I already timecoded to re-do it.

Avid DVD doesn't seem to have an option for a 23.98 timeline...isn't this the standard for Blu-ray?

When I add subtitles from text document, it isn't remotely frame accurate. Also, when I scroll through the video frame by frame, the timeline seems to randomly jump by two frames.

This is really frustrating.
