The "Jeane" silhouette, one of the three denim pieces in a collaboration between premium denim label Goldsign and retailer J. Crew set to hit stores Monday.

Collaboration Nation: Goldsign x J. Crew women's denim

Goldsign, the 8-year-old Los Angeles-based denim label founded by jeans genius Adriano Goldschmied, has teamed up with J. Crew to offer a troika of women's denim pieces set to hit the retailer's shelves Monday.

The collection has its inspirational roots in a New York to Los Angeles plane flight during which Goldschmied was reading the book "Andre de Dienes: Marilyn" and found himself captivated by a photograph of the young Norma Jeane Baker.

"She was honest, sincere, full of energy, and motivated to succeed," Goldschmied explains, "[D]ressed in red, white and blue (jeans); she was the epitome...

Jason Wu surprised that Michelle Obama picked him twice

Designer Jason Wu was almost as surprised as everyone else that First Lady Michelle Obama  once again chose one of his gowns for an inaugural ball. She wore a white one-shoulder gown he designed to her husband's first inauguration in 2009, and a ruby red Wu gown to the second inaugural ball on Monday. Wu says the White House didn't tell him until the last minute that his was the winning gown. "I'm floating," he was quoted as saying. [New York Times]

On Monday Mrs. Obama wore an ivory Naeem Khan knee-length ivory dress and matching appliqued coat to a church service for the National Day of...

Hilary Swank, Uma Thurman at Giorgio Armani Prive

Aside from attending fashion shows, Swank made news in Paris over the weekend, but not for the best of reasons: Thieves broke into the taxi in which she riding and snatched her purse.

When asked about the incident, the two-time Oscar winner simply smiled and said, "I'm OK, thank you."

Among others in attendance at the show were three striking fashion models: Tallulah Harlech,...

“I thought I might find something for the premiere of ‘The Host,’” said the star of the sci-fi thriller, which opens in March.

Also there for the show were Hailee Steinfeld of “True Grit,"...

PARIS -- The spring-summer 2013 Paris haute couture shows this week have attracted princesses, Hollywood A-listers, socialites and the world’s fashion journalists. But none of them caused a greater commotion than Kim Kardashian when she arrived for Stephane Rolland’s presentation Tuesday.

Given the multitude of photographers racing alongside at the Palais de Tokyo museum, no one could have missed her entrance. Since Kardashian has been tweeting pictures of herself in Rolland fashions that were taken for the Saudi Arabian magazine Hia, her attendance was expected and the paparazzi...

Cameron Silver promotes his book "Decades: A Century of Fashion" in France.

Cameron Silver launches his new 'Decades' book in France

PARIS -- The classic Parisian leather goods shop Moynat, which dates back to 1849 as a seller of travel trunks, celebrated the launch of Cameron Silver's book, "Decades: A Century of Fashion." Aside from France and the U.S., the book is now also available in the Netherlands, Italy and the United Kingdom.

The book begins with fashions of the 1900s and chronicles fashions through the centuries, ending with strip queen Dita Von Teese, who was among the guests of the evening party.

"Dita summarizes what 'Decades' is all about -- the 24/7 aspect of glamour," said Silver, the author and owner of the...

Dita Von Teese attends the Alexis Mabille Spring Summer 2013 Haute Couture runway presentation in Paris.

Dita Von Teese to get a tux from Alexis Mabille

Alexis Mabille showed his first collection as an official haute couture house early Wednesday evening. The terms “couture” and "haute couture" may be bandied about in the U.S., but few design houses can describe themselves as such in France.

That determination can be made only by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture – French fashion’s governing body – according to many considerations, including quality of course.

Sitting front row in a rhinestone-dotted veil, burlesque artist Dita Von Teese said Mabille designed the costume for her new show, which premieres...

Considering that the snow continued in Paris on Monday, the Dior collection came as a welcome preview of spring-summer 2013. Like Dorothy going from gray Kansas to Technicolor Munchkinland, guests slogged through the Jardin des Tuileries, layered in slush, to find themselves inside a tree-filled pavilion alive with greenery.

Under the circumstances, traveling to Paris may have delayed some, but for Danielle Steel, getting to the couture shows presented no problem. "I live in Paris," said the former San Francisco resident, arguably among the most popular authors alive today. Having written 120...

Michelle Obama wears a Jason Wu gown as she and President Obama arrive at the Commander-in-Chief's Inaugural Ball on Monday.

Inauguration 2013: Michelle Obama chooses Jason Wu gown

Michelle Obama chose Jason Wu for an inaugural gown for a second time. At husband Barack Obama's first inauguration in 2009, she wore a white, one-shoulder column gown to the round of evening balls. For his second inauguration Monday the first lady chose a ruby red chiffon and velvet halter gown. Times' Fashion Critic Booth Moore found it to be a more self-assured and powerful choice. [Los Angeles Times]

Earlier in the day, Beyonce and Jay Z were among the style notables at the inauguration. Bey, who sang the national anthem, wore an elegant floor-length Emilio Pucci gown with floral detail...

Michelle Obama wears a ruby Jason Wu gown at the 2013 Inaugural Ball (at left with President Obama); the first lady's second dance with the designer, who designed her 2009 gown (at right) as well.

Michelle Obama's inaugural ball gown: It's Jason Wu times two

Same designer, second dance.

It was either the mark of a true fashion independent or the missed opportunity of a lifetime. Michelle Obama chose the same designer, Jason Wu, to create her second inaugural gown as created the first.

The second gown is a ruby red chiffon and velvet halter style. It has a similar romantic quality to the first. But it signals more maturity, assuredness and yes, power, than the feathery, all-white confection she wore in 2009. The Obamas have come a long way, and so has Wu, who has gone from an upstart designer to the toast of Seventh Avenue, with a lower-priced line...
