Fire investigators looking into the cause of the Fern Lake Fire in Rocky Mountain National Park are asking for help from the public.
Investigators believe people who visited the park on Oct. 9 may have information that can help them determine how and where the fire started.
The investigators are asking anyone who was in the vicinity of the Cub Lake Trail or the Fern Lake Trail anytime before 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, to call the National Park Service at 970-586-1399.
Anyone who saw anything unusual or noteworthy might have information that would aid in the investigation of how the fire started.
The Fern Lake Fire was first reported on Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. It has burned 673 acres so far and is 5 percent contained. With a slight warming and drying trend in the forecast, minimal fire spread is expected over the next few days.
The area of the fire received some light rain and snow on Saturday, Oct. 13.
